Hello Pirates,   ahoy

Been lurking since I read about the site on IF a while back.  Thought it time to introduce myself. I've been in this hobby since I bought a pair of Koss-Pro4AA's in 1972. Used them with a Marantz receiver, when they made great stuff, and have been hooked ever since. Too many years and too much equipment has come and gone to remember. But I do remember when you got good VFM with most stuff and the companies worked to improve the SQ as their first priority.

I joined because I am sick of the crap that is being sold at ridiculous prices today, and it just gets worse every year.
Glad you pirates are calling them out. I'm a physics teacher, but have not an EE background. I do have a basic grasp on the graphs here, but am learning more all the time. Won't post much, and only when I have something useful to contribute, which will be seldom.

I will start with this. In 1972 one of the best headphones IMO was the Koss-ESP-9 electrostat. It cost $150. That's about $830 today. So now we have $5000 cans. $10,000 amps and those are not the most expensive. Is the R&D really that much more today?? Well, keep up the great work Pirates. Love the Wall of Shame.  :)p6

For formality's sake, here's the super belated self-intro:

I'm just a poor university student, who got interested in cans over the last two years. Before here I was already quite keenly interested in Tyll's measurements on his site, but they never felt satisfyingly informative, so Changstar and purrin's contents here were quite eye-opening when I first boarded here. Of course I'm still active on Head-Fi unlike some permanent residents here, since that's a much bigger community with more people knowing and communicating with each-other.

Also, I sketch.

We post sometimes on HF if we are in a good mood. Many of us have been banned or silenced. I've been active lately again. And only because no one has shitted on me yet, which is surprising. I kind of want to get banned and have sort of tried. I think Jude likes me. I like him too.

No need to intro. You just jumped right in and fit.

Ahoy!

Purrin owes me money and I'm here to collect  walk the plank

Let's see, name's Hix on here (and NeoGAF), I've been lurking for a few months, mostly when bored at work. Staring at headphone graphs may seem an unusual thing to do to pass the time, but it helps.

I'm a bit of an Audez'e fanboy, but I like most headphones in general and having a friend in the trade I take full advantage of the opportunity to free test pretty much any I can get my hands on.

Love the serious chat you guys have here and especially the ability to be critical if necessary. I got jumped on for suggesting the Beyer T1s were vastly over-priced just this morning on another forum. Apparently measurements don't count as objective evidence either, natch.

I work as a desk-monkey to afford part-time Yeshiva study and being married (and headphones).

Thanks! But please, call me Mark, after Mark Lawton the best headphone guy in the history of headphones. Have you bought from Mark Lawton before? You should buy from Mark Lawton. Mark Lawton.

Before the time of graphs, when the T1 and HD800 came out at approximately the same time, I would get so much shit on stating how mediocre or even bad the T1's were. Used to suggest that costing the same, the HD800 were highly superior. I was either wrong or it was just about tastes. Blah.

In other words, I share your frustration. But now it's all the merrier: I actually have graphs to prove my point, thanks to purrin and others. Point being that some have no ears whatsoever  :)p13
