which headphone do you keep rebuying?
« on: July 30, 2015, 07:07:22 AM »

Just silly musings in my head. Do you guys have any headphones that you keep rebuying over the years?

I'm currently on my 4th (I think) Sennheiser HD580/600/650. I got my first one ages ago before I had any sort of reasonable amping, and traded it away because it sounded like mush. Another two times I picked one up but curiosity resulted in a trade. Now I'm thinking I'll hold onto the HD650 for a little while, but who knows when the trading bug will bite me again.

I've also owned the K701/702/Q701, a bajillion T50rp, three or four Sennheiser HD25/Amperiors... When I was in mid-fi purgatory, I cycled through the Audio Technica M50 and the entry level Grados a bunch of times purely because they were easy trade fodder.

Only 1 repeat purchase thus far (in 4 years). The LCD 2.2, the second time with the Bill-p mod. In India I can only resell it to myself  >:(

I'm only currently on my second, but the HD600/650 will definitely be that headphone for me if I trade/sell it away a second time. I'm hoping I have better sense than to do that to myself once again, but who knows.

I had two Pioneer Monitor 10s, K240DFs, HD250 II Linears, K500s, KSC75s and besides selling the first four pairs I gave one KSC75 away.

The K181DJ, I bought the second time after I gave one away. I think I will buy a third KSC75 for Stratocaster modifications.

Multiple DT48 headphones have been traded or given away. No more DT48.

I sort of miss the DT250-250 so a second one is an option or I go Sennheiser HD600/650.

I did the same thing with the DT250-250's. Excellent value headphones that are so easy to listen to and do very little wrong. Just re-bought them a couple of weeks ago.

I've bought nearly half a dozen KSC-75s for a few different reasons.  They make great gifts, it's nice to have a spare wherever you go, and because they're not the most durable but they're so cheap that even with the lifetime warranty just getting a new one is only a few bucks more and way faster than send a broken one back to Koss.

In the land of more expensive 'phone I've sold and rebought the HD650 once so far.

HD650 about 5 times, this time I've hit upon a particularly nice pair from AustinV.  No stridency whatsoever.

The HD650 2 times, the HD800 4 times...
In the end, both were a keeper. Currently, I don't own any other headphones (aside from IEM's).

HE-6, more as a spare in case it gets discontinued and I find myself with an eventually worn out set.

Oh man I totally forgot about the KSC-75. Maybe a half dozen of those for me too, and they all wind up being gifted or traded. Come to think of it, I think I used them as "top ups" for trades on items that were worth just a smidge more than what I was offering.
