As much as I'm not a fan of the O2's silvery sound, I can't deny that it's fascinating in its ability to seemingly drive anything and do it well
Have you ever tried upping the wall wart power on the O2? Not even by a huge margin: just a little bit. like 16V1A It gets...a lot better. I have no explanation. Measurements don't indicate any added distortion.

A while ago min stopped working from batter power and before I opened it up and found that one of the batteries had died I tried it with a 16.5VAC 40VA I got from PartsExpress buyout to see if that would help it charge and didn't really notice any difference in the sound.

Well, it appears the censorship extends to PM now. (If it didn't before.)

Trying to respond to a question about [Redacted] and this happened.

NEVERMIND. As Ravi just pointed out, it's just DecentLevi not getting that I'm the one typing redacted.   Replied to him to clarify that. facepalm

Crossposting some of the deleted content from the above exchange, just to point out for posterity that rb2013 is an asshole. Currawong got in there sanitized everything.

Oh, also, apparently my pointing out what he's doing "was abusive." Ugh.

Now I could have mentioned the SAA Endorphin cables - but they're more expensive.  I have heard them and they're even better - but maybe not worth the added cost over the Moons.

BTW those '3D modeling' plots were subject.  The HD800 are some of the most neutral and realistic HPs made.  Many other folks have shown near ruler flat plots.

Oh and David Mahler's comments on the HD800's. http://www.head-fi.org/t/634201/battle-of-the-flagships-58-headphones-compared#user_HD800

But I guess you're a greater authority on all things headphone and audio then David.

Edit: BTW I see from your profile the HD800's are 'enroute' - do you even have a pair?  I've had mine for three years of intense listening - three different cables - 5 different HP amps. You're a piece of work - could you give some more advice on 6922's.  Those OG's you recommend are superior (sarc)

Wow, what a bunch of disingenuous bullshit.

Yes, I've had pairs in-house many times, and have listened to them off of my own gear - which I admit is modest. Moreover, I've had prolonged demos through gear exchanges with others and long demos at numerous Chicago area shows. At the last two shows, I had wonderful long listening sessions off of both @ogodei's pair with and stock his Questyle/DNA Stratus combo and then at the next show with someone's Anax modded pair (I think @zabzaf's) off of Ogodei's Yggy/Rag combo and the Pulse X-Fi Infinity/Cavalli Liquid Carbon.

But, none of that actually matters, because you didn't actually bring this up because you think that I hadn't heard the HD800 or really wanted to know about my gearing history and references. The rhetorical tactic that you're using here is called an "Attack on Ethos" - which, like the previous comments about sources, and your last comment about my tube recommendations, isn't about finding information or the process of discovery but is actually about insulting through the implication of a lack of experience (or, a lack of gearing). This type of rhetorical tactic is the definition of bad faith engagement.

And you're the one calling me a piece of work?

No one is asking you to believe me or Tyll over David Mahler. Actually, if I recall correctly, I don't remember my initial post addressing you at all. (Also, not that I don't think that David Mahler has listened or done enough to earn his place as one of many credible reviewers and sources, the way that you're utilizing him and his reviews is called an "Appeal to Authority" fallacy.)  And my second post largely kept to the issue of the HD800 mod - making no implications about your credibility, experience, gearing, or hearing. I snarked about recommending a large budget cable over a mod - but I'm pretty positive that that is not the first t ime that has happened on Head-Fi.

In any case, this is getting pretty far away from discussing the Schiit Mjolnir 2.

Spotted this today while googling decent RCA cables: http://www.head-fi.org/t/629231/suggested-rca-cable#post_8732626

This person's using a $1200 Audioquest cable for a $250 pair of Audioengine A2s.

And then this to top it off

Wow!  I bow to your hypocritical reply - talk about horse****.  You did the Tyll 'appeal to authority' on this ridiculous mod thing..  But get this - you and I guess the other HP wizard @Arnotts are questioning David Mahler's experience with the HD800s!  LMFAO!!  You guys are a comedy act.  I respect David Mahler's knowledge and opinion way more then some blog/zine reviewer - certainly over you chaps.

If you had said in your 'authoritative' critic of the HD800 and your strong recommendation to someone else to mod theirs - when you don't have them and haven't tried them mod.  'Hey I don;t own the HD800 and haven't tried this mod - but you could check it out - fine'.  But no you come off like some HD800 expert - giving your sage advice.  Because you read an article?  Then mock me for recommending a HP cable to better the HD800s.  Again in the most condensing of manners.
:deadhorse:

But since you love to give all this logic stuff - try and process this.  Sennheiser is probably the world's best high end headphone manufacturer - certain the one with the best engineering staff.  And so this guy Tyell - with his $50 foam pad inserts - had out engineered Sennheiser on their totl HP. Total rubbish - this is one yarn for the history books.

Then you top it all off with your experience listening...wait for it..some nice gear at an audio show!  Wow!  I am impressed.  No wait two shows...knock me over.  20minutes at a noisy trade show to decern the finer points of a few top amps and headphones.  Well i bow to your great level of experience (and a 100 headfi posts!).

Well that certainly beats this.

David home collection for his review.

Then on to your vast 6922 tube knowledge to again dispense your sage knowledge and experience - what did your hear those OGs at that trade show?

Wait, someone out engineered Sennheiser's silver plated cable? How this possible?!;p

I love people trapping themselves in their own logic.

Rb actually joined here as well and cross posted his 6DJ8 shoot out. I think it's extremely amateur to suggest a cable over an actual mod that has measurements showing the difference it makes. Then again, I haven't heard a Russian 6DJ8 equivalent that sounds as good as his supposed Russian holy grail tubes. (Which are also mostly sold by himself to tube rollers who read his shoot out... I much prefer the Philips tubes myself.)

Anyway yeah, his comments today were absolute trash. Maybe he's off his meds again or something.

I've lost patience with HF quite a bit over junk like this. Nice to be here instead  :-X

LOL, he really does come across as an old crackpot to me.

His arguments were completely nonsensical. I feel sorry for anyone who takes him seriously.
