HiFiMan HE-1000 (general purpose / public)
« on: April 16, 2015, 05:31:12 AM »

Want to make a public statement on this:
  • Please stick to NDAs and confidentiality agreements, even if only gentleman's agreements. Stop splitting hairs about the semantics of NDAs, betas, pre-sales, etc. Stop being ghey.
  • Stop being dickwads, even on HF.
  • The HE-1000 beta program is not much different from Schiit's Ragnarok beta. It's a far better arrangement than the HD700 beta or some other betas of the past. I didn't see anyone whine about Schiit's beta, so stop being whiny bitches.
  • Stop making shit up. FWIW, those who are on the beta here are free to say anything they want about its sonics. I was given a green light to take measurements.
The HE-1000 beta program is a good thing from HiFiMan. They could have just as easily ignored us. They could have given out free headphones to a select few. But they didn't. They offered a preview of HE-1000 to a huge population of hobbyists at a discount. And a few of you have to be rotten apples. I mean, what the fuck do you want HiFiMan to do? Do you guys realize that they are under no obligation do to jack?

Bottom line is that I am seriously disappointed with a few of you guys. You guys should be happy that HFM is even doing this for the community.

Permission to take measurements is an unexpectedly nice gesture from them, I'd say. Kudos to Hifiman for that.

I'll be eagerly waiting for the measurements to come in. That is... if you would like to post them, Marv. Just your impressions on them would be cool enough.

To echo Marv's post, Changstar management is seriously disappointed here. A few folks went a little bonkers and it could very well ruin the party for us. If you have an issue with a program or product, don't participate and don't support the product. Don't let your disappointment cause you to break an agreement you've made.

I'm really, really excited that Marv gets to post measurements here and you guys should be, too. Most manufacturers avoid us and I've heard from multiple folks that Chang is a scary place. It takes serious cojones to greenlight conversations about sonics AND posting of measurements on Chang for a brand new flagship. I very much respect that.

I like the confidence that HFM has in releasing some of these early.  Before production is in full-swing, there are always development (DV) & production qualification (PQ) units.  If they pass QC and meet spec, can be good if some get them early without a full commitment.  More data points and some potential feedback before full ramp-up. Operational, distribution, & lifetime durability gets some additional lead-time/testing in the field.

You can argue merits of a traditional "beta" vs. a deposit-audition in different ways: a deposit could aid objectivity since HFM isn't giving things away for free and participants are actually considering purchase.
