Who uses a $3000 headphone out of a $300 HK3490 and then posts significant comparisons expecting anyone to get a good sense of how the headphone performs? Even the HD6XX sounds unnatural out of the headphone jack of mine.

Quite a lot, actually. Since for a lot of people, only device that has 6.3mm headphone jack is usually a main stereo receiver. I must confess that I used HK3480's headphone jack out among with Headroom Micro during my early days of Head-Fi. Other than the fact that the sound was slightly boomy, it was kind of ok.

Not to mention real good vintage receivers' headphone jack out are nothing to be laughed off.

A lot of people use old receivers as their headphone amplifiers.

...but yeah, I guess very, very few people would use a cheap receiver as an amplifier for HE1000 though.

Can I not post anything anywhere, or ask anything without getting flamed?
I am going to just stop posting anymore impressions anywhere...
First of all, you weren't flamed, you were called out for being ridiculous. Welcome to Changstar, this is normal for everyone, not just you.

Secondly, giving impressions on the the HE1K (or the HE-6 for that matter) powered by a low-end, lower powered amp is like trying to give impression of a Lamborghini you started in 2nd gear, drove with a top speed of 25 and put in low-octane gas. Sure you can test drive all super cars with that same testing method, it just doesn't make for a very interesting or helpful test of the car.

The entire vintage receiver thing is highly overrated anyways. Blame HF. There are issues such as super high output Z (resistor after speaker outs) or CMOY for the headouts.

Goes with all the people posting meet/Canjam impressions over there using their smartphone.

I have a vintage Sansui. It can be okay to use it's HO. For fun, enjoyment. Not critical analysis. There is no vintage receiver comparable to the current ToTL amps available. Heck, an O2 is probably better than 99% of the vintage receivers out there and that's not saying much. Suffice to day, I love my Sansui but it's on DirecTV/YouTube duty.

Too many new folks over there have no frame of reference. Yes, a vintage receiver can usually offer more body and dynamics than your iPhone. Get over it people, it's no big deal.

I heard HE1k for a couple of hours at Axpona. I preferred it off the LH stack, which included Xfi, to the big ass HFM amp.

Yeah, its tone is more like SR009 than previous Hifimans; not so clear or fast though. HE1k also doesn't sound so effortless--as if the sound were flowing free from the room to my ears--compared with other e-stats I've heard, even ESP950.

Marv, vintage receivers are one thing...beast power amps are quite another. I think this started with trying to squeeze more out of the HE 6... one group bought bigger and bigger power amps (i'm in that group) and the other swore by vintage amps/receivers. Now I see its been extended to the HE1K...

The HK3490 is not vintage. To be clear it's a newer production stereo integrated receiver. It's mid fi on a good day. It's claim to fame was a built in phono stage at a time when budget stereo integrated receivers did not have them anymore.

I have one and have since given it to my mother along with a power amp and the triad silvers she made me downgrade to when she figured out I had bought her $1500 speakers.
