I purchased it before I realized how off HF's listening was.

I'm trying to figure out the best dead neutral set up (balanced amp, DAC) for the HD800 at around 1.5k. I've used the search function a bit on Chang but haven't found anything I'm satisfied with. Should I start a thread to that effect or is that information already compiled and I just missed it?

Also, lol @ DA8, Leben, LCD2. u_u

EDIT: LFF, do you think this DAC a decent choice in the sub-1000 dollar price range? Is your memory clear enough to tell if it's approximately the same resolution as the DA8? Also, It's not balanced, is it?

It's highly recommended on HF but I'm becoming annoyed with how warm Yulong makes his gear..

This is why myself or many of us have rarely recommended Yulong.  It's like a Chinese version of Violectric sound.

And what's wrong with the Violectric sound? I thought they sounded good for the price!? (I wanted one long ago, never got it)

Oooppsss I saw that there were new comments... lol I'm too slow...

For what it's worth, I liked the Yulong amps (A18 and A28) more than the V200.

I actually quite liked the DA8 as well, though had some driver issues.

The DAC looks nice enough, really. But so much mystery surrounding it! Luis, come now...did you design this?

I didn't like the V200 either which was claimed by some to be the absolute pinnacle of audible transparency.  So I totally understand this.

That said, I haven't heard any Yulong yet equal the best Violectric stuff out there.  I think Mr. Fried Reim has made some progress since then with his latest stuff (V281?).  Marv still doesn't like it that much but I do think it's better.  I'd probably consider paying only half of what he's asking for it based on sonics.

V281 is the best Violectric amp ever. A touch sibilant; I would have liked it quite a bit had it not been sibilant. The best Violectric amp ever does mean much to me though.

You guys can read my thoughts on the DA8 in the first post of my HF DAC thread. I'm done with it. Shipping to Hans.

+1

Paired really decently with the HE-6 from what I heard at the meet.

EDIT: nice accurate review of the DA8, purr1n. Glad it's in the list now so others won't make the same mistake I did.
