http://www.sony.de/electronics/kopfband-kopfhoerer/mdr-z7
The z7 has a 70mm aluminum coated diaphragm

Some dude on hf keeps saying "it's not the king, the king is coming later" which is some Sony flagship coming afterwards.

For iems, http://www.sonystyle.com.cn/products/headphone/xba_z5.htm
the xba-z5 has a 16mm aluminum coated diaphragm with a full range armature and a new magnesium coated armature as a tweeter. The armatures have been re-designed for lower distortion, it looks like. New cable, too. It's like a fully re-done xba-h3. The housing is smaller, too, which is great. As an iem person, I'm pretty interested, although hybrids seem to have fallen a little short of their promise. Maybe this will be the one that really shows us how good they can sound.

There's also a new Sony DAP, as well as a new iem hybrid with a smaller dynamic driver (which makes a lot of sense, given that the 16mm has led to pretty damn big housings).

Cool. Extension to 100kHz. I can't wait to hear the ultrasonic noise from Sony's DSD format.

I'm sure there's somebody on hf who will say that there's no air in his earphones because they only go up to 99khz...

It even exceeds the MDR-1R and MDR-Z1000 which are spec'd:  4 - 80.000 Hz  8)

They are probably correct as well because Sony does not specify the cut-off points.

Perhaps the engineers who made the R10  are still operating?

Yeah! Headphones for dogs and dolphins! :)p1

Btw, Sony, it's kinda time to rejuvenate the EX1k. XBA-4 is not my cup of tea. H3 is kinda like not bad, but well... Just help us Jesus the dead EX1k ya.  :)p2

The xba- h3 measures with a fair amount of distortion, iirc. I'd like to see if the z5 corrects that for a clearer, more resolving sound.

Is product support at Sony good these days? Sony sometimes drops product support completely and that is why I tend to ignore Sony headphones.

A 70 mm driver, properly tweaked and implemented though can be the kick-ass headphone that will make Sony more competitive again...
