Some dude on hf keeps saying "it's not the king, the king is coming later" which is some Sony flagship coming afterwards.
actually he went on to say that it wasn't coming from Sony, and just stopped posting after that

so no R10-II

which probably means I can buy the Z7 without regretting it once this "king" comes out; knowing audiophools it's going to be another $20k stat from sennheiser

currywong(?) made an unboxing video of the Z7:

haven't had the energy/time to read through all the comments on them over at that other site but they sure look comfy and sturdy.

I'm not that well-versed in CSD, but does that graph means the bass decay is so slow?

Don't think so. I think that if one wants to see decay at lower frequencies (say < 500 Hz) one would have to increase the time range from say 10.27 ms to something larger. This at the expense being too zoomed out in decay visualization above 500 Hz and assuming sufficient samples of the impulse response were obtained.

That is because lower frequencies have larger periods. Consider a 200 Hz waveform. That's 5 ms period and in 10.27 ms the CSD would only capture decay with 2 cycles vs say a 5 kHz waveform which would go through 50 cycles already. Worst case consider 50 Hz in which case not even a cycle would have gone through in a 10.27 ms period.

For that Seeko.co.kr CSD proly best to look at decay north of 500 Hz (IMO their CSD is too zoomed out though). Maybe better to focus at 500 Hz and above and change the time range to 3 to 5 ms.

Descriptions of the z5 are coming in and they are tending to get...weird

Here's a translated one that describes the z5's treble as "a little pregnant"
http://www.head-fi.org/t/733404/sonys-new-2014-flagship-iem-xba-z5/300#post_11005823

As for the bass, well...that's just how you like it: "A mega piece of coagulated phlegm at the back of my throat I cannot quite cough out. "
http://www.head-fi.org/t/733404/sonys-new-2014-flagship-iem-xba-z5/300#post_11005873

And the midrange?
Well, I have asked people for a description and offered my own suggestions for how they may wish to describe it:
http://www.head-fi.org/t/733404/sonys-new-2014-flagship-iem-xba-z5/300#post_11005936

But, I ask you, dear reader, what is the midrange like?

Is the midrange like a scent of a well-fattened goat, after a summer rainstorm?

Is it like the turgid rippling of a segment of a tapeworm as it feasts on the semi-digested detrius of a hamburger in the colon of an unsuspecting tourist?

Is it like "a soft field, the pride of the tilled land,

wide and triple-ploughed, with many ploughmen upon it

who wheeled their teams at the turn and drove them in either direction.

And as these making their turn would reach the end-strip of the field,

a man would come up to them at this point and hand them a flagon

of honey-sweet wine, and they would turn again to the furrows

in their haste to come again to the end-strip of the deep field.

The earth darkened behind them and looked like earth that has been ploughed

though it was gold..." (-trans Lattimore)
