We need to take the constraints into account here. Carmody's goal was to make a small speaker that could fit anywhere. Any larger than it already is would be an additional space hog on people's desks or in a small bedroom.

Also worth noting that larger drivers mean the acoustic centers of the tweeter and woofer will be farther apart. While this isn't a biggie when you're listening 3m away in a living room, it is when you're listening less than a meter away on a desk. I feel the baffle design is a big part of reason why the OSMT has such great imaging even when listening up close.

Every design has compromises obviously. The OSMT makes the best of them and is a killer value for what it is.

Managed to get my friend's pair of Audioengine A5+s today since he'll be gone for a week. Let's see how they compare to my A2s and the OS MT.
