So, I've just sent in ear-impressions for a pair of UERMs; I own the mighty HD800s; I own the outrageously expensive—though admittedly the best phone I've heard to date—FAD LAB I. And I also own several excellent $1000(+) phones, along with the truly EXCELLENT HD600s.

Yet, my love for the Earpods increases by the day…and this after having owned them for 1.5 years. The Earpods are the only phone I've always allowed myself to abuse—really, really abuse—and, after all this time, they look (almost) as good as new.

But it isn't 'just' the excellent build, the non-microphonic cable, the excellent ergonomics, and the fact they even have a mic and playback controls (play, pause, volume up/down, next/previous track & fast forfard/rewind!), an IEM that can easily be used with non-Apple devices (without an adaptor), but the EXCELLENT SQ these £25 phones deliver (quite a bit cheaper in the US these days, probably).

These may not have the greatest extension on both ends of the spectrum, but they're fairly linear and even have quite impressive soundstage—likely due to the several vents they have, and the fact they're canal phones (aka earbuds) and not IEMs—and very, very good timbral qualities.

Interestingly enough, I have never been able to use "earbuds"—they would always, without exception, fall off—…that is, until I found the Earpods 1.5 years ago.

Seems to me Apple did their homework on these phones way better than most people would know… or would be willing to admit.

Yes, I love the Earpods to bits…and I happen to use them a hell of a lot. Who would have thought? Certainly not me...just 1.5 years ago.

they're pretty neat, a bit U-shaped or V-shaped or whatever to be something I'd like to use. but neat for being free with some devices, and pretty good price if not.
seem to stand up to abuse a bit too yeah. haven't had mine for too long but neat indeed.

I have had a couple pair of the Apple ear pods lying around collecting dust from my kids' iPods, etc. I never even thought to try them.

I just plugged them in and I have to say, they are much better than expected. I thought they would sound like every other cheap earbud, but they're not bad at all.

Maybe it's all about "expectation factor". but they're listenable.

In fact , I've been telling people that my Out Of Your Head software even works with the earbuds that came with your phone. Now I can say that it actually works really well with the Apple ear pods.

Thanks for the tip.

The expectation factor is certainly one huge part of it. I think the iBuds in that sense are very good. But in the same sense, that makes the Mikros very bad.

I have a set lying around I ninja'd from my friend new iPhone.  I'll have to give them a spin to see if they are Stevie's great last legacy left behind for the betterment of humanity.

The old design was meh but the pods are really excellent for the money to these ears. It's not audiophile grade per se, but extremely fun / pleasing sound it delivers. To be honest, if I was broke, I would absolutely be satisfied with these. Maybe only the bass bloom would get annoying after some time, even then you get used to whatever sound if you don't rotate gear...

Agreed. I think they're quite good for what they are.

Used my friend's pair for a week, instead of my JH13. If it wasn't for the lack of isolation, I would've been more than satisfied. The eat pods are good.

They are pretty good (listening to them for the first time, with iPad and Herus).  No immediately obvious, glaring show-stoppers.  I'm gonna have to eat a bunch of crow for ragging on my kid about using them.   :spank:
