Ah! Record Store Day comes around again. Last time I couldn't get in my store as it was knee deep in hipsters.

There's no way some snot-nosed punk is leaving my cheese out in the wind this year.

There is a record store near me that I love and consider the shop owner a friend, so I trek out to his shop. But if not for that, I'd just wait to buy everything online. Last year, everything that I wanted could have been found online for retail in the following weeks.

You're right. A lot of the albums I wanted bounced back to the original labels and were sold with t-shirts etc. There's just something about having a bunch of 12"s to take home and play. I kinda miss that.

Mogwai's Rave Tapes is in heavy rotation at the moment.

I feel like a heathen admitting this but I'm not that familiar with Mogwai. I'm getting strong Spiritualized and Explosions in the Sky vibes here. Love the soaring crescendoes. Reminds me of Agaetis Byrjun era Sigur Ros.

Rave Tapes didn't keep me interested unfortunately. Young Team and CODY are my favorites from Mogwai, which I would highly recommend if you've never listened. 8)

Sun Kil Moon Benji

A beautifully depressing piece of work. I believe the songs are based on true events. I don't recommend listening to it if one is already low in mood, or halfway through a serious bender.

Yep, Benji is achingly beautiful. Laid me to waste on first listen.  :'(

I ordered the Dessner/Greenwood and Adams discs. Will post impressions once they arrive.

Also ordered a recent album of 20th-century Russian choral music by the American chorus Conspirare. This should be fun.

My St. Carolyn by the Sea / There Will Be Blood arrived, but I have not been able to listen to it yet... looking forward to it.
