So what's the difference between the HE-x models and the HE-xxx models?

The triple digit models are designed to be easier to drive.

I mostly talk about music there. Weird.

Also I miss the ridiculously inefficient models. Here's hoping for an HE-7 flagship to replace the HE-6.

This!  How the hell are we supposed to be elite audiophiles if we don't have to get highly specialized gear to listen to our music?  Seriously, I've been waiting for them to drop the bomb on a proper HE-6 replacement that needs a small nuclear reactor for power in your home.

Or, is the HE-6 replacement going to be a stat!?!?  Let's start some rumors.

I like the changes. A suspension model easily beats the current one in comfort and I was never a big fan of the two cylinders randomly sticking out of the sides of one's head. It also looks like the metal frame might amend to some adjustment by retaining a bend, so I expect the clamping pressure to become variable.

The design does look more like the new stax headbands, though perhaps with a tensioned instead of a notched vertical suspension band adjustment.

agreed.  that's only like 1W max for 120dB.  i would be interested in what amp(s) they tune these with - a under-driven speaker amp or an adequately powered HP amp.

Don't worry, knowing Hifiman they've overestimated the sensitivity by 10db and will insist on a minimum of 50w as provided by their upcoming EF7.

I wish they would ditch the existing connectors. They look so cheap... and it's not exactly a cheap purchase.

You can see the seam-lines on the plastic gimbals too.  CHEAP.  Reminds me of that Kingsound electrostat.

What is the strange voodoo of headphones, that only Sennheiser can make a reasonable headband that fits nicely, is comfortable and looks okay ?

Kudos to Fang for reducing the weight. Hopefully sq isn't compromised as a result. I'm not feeling the look of these cans though. Goofy and cheap are fitting descriptors imo. Shame they've persisted with the existing connectors.
