So you're saying - hide yo kids, hide yo wife, thro awee yo deltasig?

And that I need to rethink about making my "last" DAC on PCM1794 and rather switch to PCM63...

Going back through final comparisons last night, I still like the PWD2 a lot (too bad there's a question-mark on the SQ of the new production PWD2s) and would keep it as a second DAC if I could afford another OR5. If you see in the comparisons, it's really close.

As I've said, I've never been a big ladder DAC fan before and hated most of them because of their overly smoothed forgiving sound which is only but a pale imitation of vinyl. Ladder, deltasig, regardless, the M7 is just a better DAC than the PWD2 because of sweeter tone and marginally better or equivalent technicalities. I mean shit, it took my wife 2 seconds to identify which one she preferred, and she didn't even know which was which.

You can do much better than the 1794 while still staying with delta sigma IMO.

I'm guessing all of these DACs are sounding better with the OR5 than through their usual inputs, making comparisons more difficult.

As done as I think I am, I might have to borrow one of these magic boxes once I get my GS-X.

This is what you get by stacking so many PCM1704 on top of each other and a good implementation. :money:

However, I'll have to hear it for myself to compare to stacked CS4398s in HiLo. Yes, the Cirrus chip is delta-sigma. No, it doesn't sound one bit digital even when not stacked if ran in the normal or dual speed mode, not even if used with the small internal filter. It starts to sound bit digital in quad speed mode. (192kHz)
I'm talking reference implementation here on a silly breadboard driven via dumb Arduino custom-coded async USB, not the setup in HiLo, which is actually somewhat better at detailing.

Analog Devices? Cirrus? Asahi Kasei? Just don't say - Wolfson. I'll never understand how PWD2 sounds how it sounds with these chips. Everything Wolfson has always sounded pretty meh to me.

PWD2 doesn't use the builtin filter of the DAC, that's the main difference. Likely the same with HiLo and Cirrus chip.
(Why else have a huge fast FPGA inside? Certainly not for the touchscreen... reclocking and SRC do not require that fast FPGA either.)

To bad it doesn't come in silver!   :-Z

Great to see another really good DAC at a pretty reasonable price!

I want to hear a good ladder DAC ahead of the 009...

Remember that it was driven via I2S, so you need the DAC *and* the converter. I bet its USB input is quite a bit less than stellar.

I do have four PCM63 K's... Had one interesting design from Russian forums, now to find a good discrete IV stage! I'm too cheap to experiment with trannies.
