Babies and mentalgen, I have found my ultimate end-game rig. Presenting the Goldmund HP-1 and HP-2:

http://cybwiz.blogspot.it/2013/04/goldmund-hp-1-planar-magnetic-headphone.html?m=1

Feast your eyes on the splendor! The glory! We've got an HE-6 rebranded with the Goldmund name, an important detail exquisitely rendered amidst bright polar white ™ adjustment blocks that replace the regular ones that are so hum drum in their insistence on matching the rest of the headphone. Yes, the legendary HiFiMan build quality and luxury feel---the two things the brand is most known for---are finally given a display partner in the form of the HP2, an amp of truly epic proportion. Features for your consideration (just don't consider them too hard; it might blow your fucking mind):

-> Telos ™ amplifier technology
-> analog AND digital inputs
-> Leonardo ™ digital correction, a clear step up from Michelangelo ™ technology.
-> Free HE-6!

I'm sure Joe Grado ™ is senile now anyway so he wont mind the HP1 and HP2 names being rekindled like a phoenix rising from the ashes of late 80s obscurity. Either way, it's for a noble cause. This my marshmallow mateys ™ is the ultimate statement product ™. I haven't auditioned it yet, but I can tell already because of the price:

$12,000

It's sad to see headphones go from a fun, affordable hobby to the gold-plated, overpriced audiojewelry model chased by "big" high-end names. It's the same crap that made us get out of high end 20 years ago.

When will manufacturers learn that there's only so much uber-priced, high-margin product you can stuff down an outdated, inefficient rep/distributor/dealer pipeline, in search of the few thousand (or few hundred, literally, depending on the nosebleed price level you've chosen) who have the wherewithal to support it? Awaiting the inevitable $20,000, $50,000, and $100,000 phones now.

I had someone tell me they heard a great set of "mid-priced" planar loudspeakers at a recent show. I was excited to hear them, because my aging Eminent Tech speakers are due for an upgrade. Turns out "mid priced" to him was $25,000. Here's a newsflash, dude: $25,000 speakers are beyond-the-pale crazy.

If people start calling $2500-5000 headphones "mid priced" in a few years, then, well, we truly are insane. And we deserve what we get.

I've been chatting with Peter (rep from Hifiman who frequents Head-fi) over PMs with regards to this, and he's hoping I don't reference too much to what he understands of the situation since it's still a bit unclear. But as far as he knows Goldmund should have been referring the HE6 as the HE6, as they (Goldmund) were only supposed to be designing the amp system "HP2" to complement it.

The gimbal rebranding and product renaming was supposedly never part of the deal.

This might turn quite interesting..  :)p1

There's a growing number of people refer stuffs like he500,lcd2 and to a lesser extend he6 as "mid priced". 5000 mark might take some time but 2000-2500 becoming mid priced in near future is totally possible. How sad

Even if there's some issues with the renaming, I highly doubt it will be out to the public.

The market for this stuff isn't us.

The market for this stuff is people with Boulder electronics and Wilson speakers, who want to be able to listen late at night without disturbing Trophy Second Wife's beauty sleep.

And if your point of reference is Boulder electronics and Wilson speakers, $12K seems like a pittance by comparison.

I feel sad for those wanting a taste or wanting to enter the TOTL headphone setups in the future and because of marketing, are bamboozled by these overpriced systems.

I think it depends. Most folks I've known who have $60k+ speaker setups tend to see headphones as lame and would balk at the idea of ever needing anything more than a K701, interestingly enough.

Either way though, I don't think this product is for *anyone* TBH. People who drop five figures all at once on a headphone rig surely want something that looks and feels a bit more luxurious than a HiFiMan ortho. I mean *look at it.*  :-X

MF, you'll never know what "rich" people think...  :)p8

What's going on with selling $12k HP in a semi-cooked blogspot? At least register it under .com and have a proper layout right? Basic marketing (to fish the gullible).

Btw, (derailing) is HFM RMA issue is as bad internationally as what I have heard over here in Malaysia? I seriously considering HE-500, RE262 and RE272 but was held aback by the issue.
