BA-Airy?
« on: April 11, 2013, 12:56:58 PM »

Hey, someone could tell me, why am I hearing this kind of "airy" feel in BA based IEM but seldom in Dynamic Driver IEM.
The "airy" feel is heard in Shure SE535 (Red) <-- Bought it because of that feel, regret later,
JH5 (Demo) <--- Kinda airy.
But I didn't recall hearing it on Westone 4, and certainly didn't notice any Dynamic based IEM has that kinda feel.

I think it has something to do with lower end (bass), but unsure what is it that makes that "airy" feeling.

purrin, i'm quite handicapped in terms of technicalities of the IEMs/Headphones as I'm still new in this audio world. Could you perhaps tell me what those harmonics are about (i can't make any sense from the graph, except that guessing the higher the distortions the worst it is).

I'd say clarity + that tinkly/sparkly BA treble combined with sharper imaging is something that most dynamics don't do.  But that's not really 'air'.  Karl @ Westone prefers a warmer sig which is why the W4 isn't sparkly but it has great space.  Open back dynamics like the FX500/700, 8320/9927, even EX1000 have better 'air' and space than most BAs.
