Hey this sounds promising. Thanks for the find!

Buddy Rich good? I wouldn't necessarily say so :)

Apparently the drummer is also pretty good at Funk. If that is so then he must have Clyde Stubblefield levels of controls over minute timing, high hats and cymbals. When a drummer is good at Funk, really good enough to keep a groove going you can keep your hard hitters. Drummers who can fill in and keep grooves going can immerse in the music and create Neil Peart and King Crimson level master pieces of rhythm and pace.

I should stop now before I write an essay about why I love good drumming in music.

P.S. Clyde Stubblefield drummed on this master piece of Free Funk. When later Maceo Parker joins in the outro I reach a state of bliss that is best encapsulated by the great JB, "Ain't it funky." Rest in peace JB.

Speaking of which:

Can't touch Buddy though, but he's just amazing in his own right. Did not hear him play funk ever. Funkish stuff in the 70s, some of his fills for instance do have influences in this performance (great break starting at 21:53):

But I generally agree with what you're saying, except that part about Neil Peart :)

Love this track.

Gives me that Old School Chicago/Detroit vibe from Four Brothers and John Singleton.

One of the best James Brown performances on television. I am still in awe.

P.S. Good picks Anaxilus. "Trouble Man" is a B-Boy favourite and Curtis was simply his smooth self.
