Good suggestion, burn.

Just got this CD in the mail today, Mahler 9 transcribed for chamber group: 2 violin, 1 viola, 1 cello, 1 bass, 1 flute, 1 oboe, 2 clarinet, 1 bassoon, 2 horn, 1 trumpet, 1 accordion, 1 piano, 2 percussion (17 people)!  Just listening to 1st mvt but so far it is a refreshing, intimate take on an epic piece, like the Das Lied for chamber orchestra transcribed by Schoenberg.

Then on youtube found a transcription for only 12 players (no percussion, only 1 brass 2 winds and more strings)!!  Have only listened up to the 1st climax though:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Appetite_for_Destruction

i went to the local Pamida in Elk River, MN with a classmate when i was 13 yrs old. he told me to head over to the cassette section and try to distract an employee. i was into Rush at the time. i overheard some big haired burn-outs from Zimmerman rage how great this GnR album was. i chatted up the guy in a smock and ponied up for a Rush cassette. buying a "metal" album with skeleton heads on the cover, recommended by presumed feckless losers, was not going to happen in my budding, artsy skater-punk world. walking out with my classmate (and my cassette of Power Windows), he pulled out a log of Kodiak from underneath his coat he fingered and thanked me. AFD happens to be one of my desert island discs. puberty is disorienting.

New to this thread, so here's hoping this hasn't already been posted:

Yes, I live in Nashville.

No, I don't like country music.  At least not the modern pop nonsense they try to pass off as country music.

This, though, is the real deal.  Check it out.

Large-scale Mahler, the intimate version. Nice idea :)

Props to 6, this is good stuff:

My Dad was a gigging bass player and oddly enough also a NYC club DJ in the '70's. This was before the days of extreme DJaying. He was about promoting music that he liked. My fondest memory was being blown away when he played a pre-released white jacketed version of Rapper's Delight for me when I was in fifth grade. That was a couple of months before it hit the radio. It was my first time hearing rap, and I knew it was something special.

This one of my favorite old school sets, even though he's using a laptop or whatever:

Michael Lucarelli 'Prayer for the Dead' (orignal Composition) - https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-sIzWIrk_X8

I always liked the sound of a spanish/classical guitar. Always sounds lighter and not as piercing like regular guitars with steel/brass strings.  I love the wider neck/fret board as well. Perfect for a guy like me with big hands. I like the sound how  good nylon strings resonate as well. Something about it.

Liked this stuff. Thanks Rex!
