i used to despise Steely Dan, only hearing the hits on the local 70's butt-rock station, until a buddy forced me to listen to "Can't Buy a Thrill" from beginning to end on a road trip to Utah 15 years ago. i think the cassette ended up being played continuously during the 20hr drive to Moab. i then spent a week backpacking in the high desert humming the album. since then i've gone through a few Steely Dan phases, preferring the pre-Aja years.

One of my favorite albums. These guys usually make much slower music, and in this one they rock out. It's beautiful music. Just an electric guitar, drums and bass. Seeing them live is breathtaking. It at least feels like they open up and put something real or honest into every performance I've seen. They really give it to you with the heart shaped electric pulsating dildo of emotion.
