June Tabor - Ashore

This is the first album I've heard from this artist, but I like her already. I find the instrumental tracks to be the real stars of this album: June Tabor has a great voice, but if anything, her backing musicians are even better. I also feel like the somewhat dull melodies of these songs might be holding her back. The spoken word sections are kinda neat, though I would have preferred a longer pause before a return to her singing.

As much as I love the instrumentation of Monoliths & Dimensions, I wish Sunn would do a more experimental and abstract new album along the lines of their White series.

Actually, the live version of Monoliths & Dimensions is much weirder than the album.

I mostly talk about music there. Weird.

I agree, for more experimental and abstract, one has to check out their live performances. I've had the privilege of seeing them live twice. Remembering the first gig always brings a smile to my face.

It was around the release of Altar, checking Wiki it was the Forum, London 2007. The line up was Earth opening, then Boris and finally Boris and Sunn O))) performing Altar.

The sound was more visceral than loud. It felt like one's insides were liquifying. One also gets the theatricality of the event. A couple of years later they performed with Attila Csihar.

This music shaped so much of my later interests. Listening to these tracks now is a bit spooky. Lol, I can see myself, still wearing too much black and taking shit far too seriously.

As Shaw once said "Youth is wasted on the young".
