For extra credit everyone should watch 'Produced by George Martin'.

Watched it a couple days ago. Good show, a bit slower than Sound City and more focused on the man than the place. Lots of cool Beatles stuff though, including interviews with Paul and Ringo.

Watched the film, just wanted to say that I found it really interesting. Took a list of the albums recorded there afterwards and I never knew there were so many 90s albums I liked which were recorded there. I'm also a big fan of post-1975 Fleetwood Mac.

Edit: The film ran about 30minutes too long. I though it should have ended after Dave Grohl purchased the Neve Board. Regardless, I just the album (in vinyl) to hear the songs.

Thanks, looks interesting. I should educate myself more on his work I think, given that I thought you were referring to George RR Martin at first :P

One of my favorite George Martin interviews...

Great flick, I like David Grohl but aren't Foo albums super compressed?

The irony of having well-recorded albums but squashed mastering.

This would get me kicked out of any proper analog-phile circle but it was the DR improvement of the vinyl Wasting Light over the CD which finally pushed me over the edge to start building a vinyl rig.

Hey, whatever works. Vinyl is usually the only version that sounds any good, so that's what you have to buy.

Needle drop vinyl is the only way to go on some albums even if you are a digital only user. I will be doing that in cooperation with Morbidtoaster once he gets his needle drop rig set up. Mostly he just needs to get a Lynx Hilo he has everything else except a few misc cables.

Mine was a needle drop of Taylor Swift's Speak Now p:/ DR5 to 11 difference.

Indeed. Needle dropping takes a lot of skill and patience though. I wish you could just put together some good hardware, run it through click repair and be done with it, but it's just not that easy. A friend of mine does an absolutely amazing job with a very modest Technics direct drive table, Simaudio phono pre, and a pretty basic A-D converter. He does all the processing by hand though, and the results are first rate. I've also heard drops done on hyper expensive tables that've had serious problems with rumble or otherwise sound like crap. Just throwing money at it definitely doesn't work.
