That is even worse, old Atrio were very dark and just as peaky, if not more. I remember it having less "harsh" tonality though.

I did not mention the magnitude or facets of similarity. You're drawing too much conclusions from too little data.

I wanted to post some lines about the mg6pro's sound in relation to the Atrio, but I think you're too close to the forum servers and caused it to go haywire, wiping out the text a few times when I get whacked by a "Not Acceptable" error.

I'm interested in your thoughts on it, Grahad, so when the servers calm down, please give it another go!

Being on the NOT so cutting edge I just got these on extended load for an audition.  There may be little more to say, from my first listen it appears @MuppetFace has pretty much nailed what I am hearing.

The funny thing is that when I read the impressions in the past I didn't have them so I wasn't reading very closely.  My mind summarized things and I was expecting the bass to be huge.  Now that I've listened I realize that when folks said things like low-bass and deep-bass being emphasized they meant it, the low stuff, the real low bass... not mid-bass.

It's an odd presentation because everything else seems pretty well balanced, but when something digs deep it's all of sudden super emphasized!  Its like they wanted to create a fairly balanced sound but add a little sub feel/impact by kicking the hell out of the very deep stuff.

So far, I'm enjoying them.  They are passing the weekend test to be worthy of spending the week commuting with me.  I'll put up my full impressions after spending some more time with them, but I don't expect to add much at this point.

On another, completely unrelated note I also got one of these Just Audio (built in the UK) portable DAC amps to try out.  Nice little unit.  I'll give it a spin too and report back in the portable section.

Life has been on trololololol mode at the moment...

The mg6pro impressions will have to wait, I'm afraid. I think sometime within next week (9-13 sept) I can get some comments in point form or something out.

I gave the loaners back this past weekend.  Not much more to add really.

I enjoyed the sound signature, but it was a bit colored to be a long term contender for me.  The bass they are pulling off is pretty neat, in its own way.  It's very much like a sub-woofer.  I have to say that I expected the bass to be pretty muddy since it was emphasized.  I found, however, that in spite of the tilt it was still pretty detailed.  I threw one of my bass torture test at it, some live recordings of 7 Seconds, a punk band.  On a shitty rig you'll think that the bass line is just a blur... but on a good rig you'll pick up the detail and speed of an incredible bass line.  The IE-800 was able to retrieve it and let me pick out the details of all Steve Youth's plucks, slaps, and pops.  I was impressed.

If not for the price I'd be happy to recommend these to new comers who aren't quite over their need for boom.

No way they'd replace my customs.  Fit was funny... I had to be sure to get them inserted enough, but not too much... too much hassle for me now.

fit was a problem for me. never could get a consistent seal. didn't have that issue with the ie80 - better ergonomic design IMO.
