Supposed Shure SRH1840 Frequency Response

Supposed Shure SRH1840 Frequency Response from YouTube Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aid7yYOXsDQ

The lower treble looks disturbing.

I like how in the video, they talked about the bass, midrange, and high treble, but skipped over the problem area. I guess I won't be snagging these for measurement.

Haha I saw the same thing and was like  ???

And that's a manufacturer's graph so you know it looks better than they actually are...   :o

Actually, I don't find it very different from the uncompensated HD 800 graphs

I don't think you can apply Tyll's same compensation functions because they only apply to his Audio Precision head. It's my understanding that a good amount of compensation is necessary because of where the microphone is located on the ear canal.

The Shure measurements use a coupler. Not sure how compensation is applied to the B&K coupler, but I can't see why they would show uncompensated graphs in the video if they were going to highlight how good the bass, midrange, and high treble are. Seems odd how they just avoided talking about the elevated lower treble.

Do you mean that Shure's measurement system is more comparable to yours while Tyll's uncompensated graphs still show the influence of the artificial head/torso?

Can't say that Shure's is more comparable to mine unless I know where they place the microphone. I actually have an ear coupler that Tyll sent me and its results are similar to my solid plate measurements (with mic right at the ear opening)

Tyll measurements definitely take into account the ear lobe, ear canal, and location of eardrum. It has to because that microphone is located at the eardrum location. Not sure about head/torso or free-field / diffuse-field.

Other systems have the microphone at the location of the ear. Mine is this way.

All this added treble for the exaggeration of detail is getting absurd.
