I think the min is 10. And we probably have more than 10.

Correct! Just over 10.

However, a lot of people are on the fence. The bigger the group, the better.

But I am wondering, is it possible to still be in the "group" but order a little earlier. I was hoping to get these by Jan or perhaps my birthday mid Jan. Although I know that kind defeats the "group" concept.

It does defeat the purpose. They would all ship at the same time too.

Amusing!  Jude just posted a long reply at the end of the C4 thread on HF and then locked the thread.  He included lots of justification for why group buys are not allowed and finished with 'not up for discussion'.  The post reads as very sympathetic and reasonable.  But if you go back through it with a critical eye, you realize that none of the justifications apply to this situation.

Not to belabor the point, but he quotes a PM (that I think he sent) which spends quite a bit of time decrying the potential for abuse by the organizers of group buys who pit one dealer against another.  This has absolutely nothing to do with the current situation, where we have a customer IEM manufacturer offering a group buy discount.  There's no abuse here, and no potential for abuse.  It's not like we're going to call up JHA or Heir Audio and say we'll all buy their product instead if they'll beat some discount level.

Whatever  :)

Hey Luis, two questions. If I was to decide I was in would that mean I would have to pony up the bones immediately or would payment be due on January 15th? Also, lets say I ordered and I had a fit problem can I send the CIEM with a different set of impressions and get them redone? I know in your neck of the woods you probably don't have to worry about finding a good audiologist but my city is know for being pretty ghetto. Most people around here don't even know what IEM stands for.

Lot of that going on apparently -- Purrim's post right before mine on the HF C4 thread cracked me up when I saw it after I posted.

The C4 thread on head-fi seems to have gotten out of hand with the MOD's throwing to much of their weight around. At this rate by tomorrow the thread will probably be deleted

It's quite simple: vendors pay up - and we can have a group buy.

Oh shit LMFAO. I just finished reading the HF C4 thread

Quoted from the HF C4 thread

Purrin:
It's not a matter of us regular guys benefiting, but rather of other manufacturers (especially those who are esteemed sponsors) suffering because such actions start discount wars. It is what it is and we must respect the HF TOS for what it is. As an ancient saying goes: we must agree even if we do not understand.

I was drinking chocolate milk when I read that and I laughed so hard milk shot out of my nose and all over my keyboard

Hey DigitalFreak:

I was right where you are, not long ago.  I live in a small town on the Oregon Coast, and I was very unsure whether I could get good impressions made locally.  In the end, I went to Portland (about 90 miles away) to get them made, and also to audition 1964Ears IEMs.

My V.3s are very comfortable.  More importantly, once I went through the impression process I was much less uncomfortable.  It's very straight-forward.  They attach a nylon line to a blob of cotton, push it into your ear, and then squirt some goop in (sort of like caulk).  It sits for a minute or two to solidify, and then they use the nylon line to pull the whole thing out.  Then repeat process on the other side.

The audiologist I went to didn't have a bite block, so I bit down on my wallet, which is a tri-fold and maybe an inch and a half thick.

Holding your mouth open supposedly gives a better impression, and biting down keeps you from inadvertently moving your jaw and screwing up the impression.

Interestingly, one of my impressions came out badly the first time -- there was a gap, like there had been a bubble in the goop.  It was obvious, and the tech redid that ear.  Done correctly, they just look like a little abstract sculpture, with interesting bends and bulges.

The good news is that making molds for this is very similar to the molds audiologists make for hearing aids and ear protectors.  We're not asking them to do something they don't already do all the time.

From your profile I see you're from Winnipeg.  That's a pretty big city -- there must be lots of audiologists there.  I bet if you call a few you'll run into one that has done this before.
