Had the XB500, gave them to the GF...    squishy...  like her bewbs..

The XB700 was also with me. It was slightly more grainy..  bit more coarse sounding. Still not bad for 70bux.

I have an odd question about Stax. Currently being tempted by the SRS3170, which is the SRM323S and SR307.

I'm actually more interested in the amp, but since the SR307 is offered at a good price bundled, I'm thinking of getting that as well. It's supposed to have the same drivers as the 407 and 507, so maybe a pad change on the 307 would make it would more similar to the 507? On the other hand, I could just get the 323 and a Lambda or something. Any opinions on this? I know the SR307 isn't mentioned very often.

I've heard the SR-407 and SR-507 share the same driver, only with different arc assembly, cable, and pads. Not as sure about the SR-307 being the same as those two, but that sounds familiar.

Keep in mind that the SR-Lambda is normal bias, so you wont be able to power it using the SRM-323. You could look for a Lambda Signature or a Lambda Nova Signature however, but they can be hard to come by [at reasonable prices] so you may be waiting for a spell.

Really, from what I hear the 407 is a definite improvement over the 404, and I thought the 404 sounded pretty darn good, etch and all, so you should be fine with whatever route you go. Just be warned that once you go Stax....

I mostly talk about music there. Weird.

XB500. Cheap enough to buy just for the lols.

A Portapro or PX90 is more appealing for me...

Bah, ordered the Conductor despite not selling any of my old stuff off yet.  I'll worry about that later (I hope).

I've been thinking about some amp to fill the gap between ODAC and Paradox. It's very tempting now.

Trying to stay the course for the main rig, but temptations never cease.

Currently awaiting statement pair from Schiit before I make any moves, but their delays aren't helping! Other upgrades rolling around in my head: Headamp GS-X (will hear this in March on my rig), Bryston BDA-2 (new DAC just came out) or some other 2-3k DAC. The Gungnir is good, but I think it's holding me back more than the Bryston amp atm.

Been having an irrational craving for something ortho, the smooth creaminess of their sound is different from the HD800, and they would play better with some of my poorer recordings. I like the sound of orthos, as evidenced by my rankings of rigs at RMAF, but their wonky stage will be tiring eventually.

In more recent temptations, Muppet's post about Japanese systems has me wondering about picking up a whole system that is 'typically' Japanese. I don't really have the money to do both this and continue my main rig's upgrades, though, and there is no guarantee I would like a fully Japanese system. Currawong's post about the new improved AD2000X has added fuel to this fire as well. However, this is something I could do while I wait for Schiit and March's Austin meet to happen as long as I could resell all components fairly easily. Hmmmm...
