I remember seeing Sambas with a lot of the B-boy's and skate boarders.
I've heard that Sambas are good for skateboarding because the sole is flat, and not too thick, so it's easy to feel where the board is (especially for tricks).

This is one of the reasons why I like the K-Swiss Classics. They're very comfortable and durable. I can usually get a couple years (or more) of wear from a pair. Their soles are high quality.

Personally had great experiences with Onitsuka Tigers for years. Gone through about 6 pairs, each one lasting 3 years on average. They're all lightweight, made with real leather, and have a slim profile that I prefer.
Recently I've been trying to buy other brands, for variety. Got an Adidas canvas skate shoe, and a Nike Flyknit. Skate shoe looks good with smart casual clothes, and the Flyknit is super comfortable...makes me feel like a ninja lol.

I've been a long time Onitsuka Tiger fan as well - although sadly my favorites, the "tai chi" appear to have been recently discontinued.  Have gone through multiple pairs over the last ten years and probably would have continued to rebuy them for the indefinite future.  Classic low profile design with a super thin sole and nice wide toe box.  Next best thing to being without shoes.

My latest casual shoe buy was a pair of sanuk knock outs.  Another nice low profile design, but these guys have insoles made out of yoga mats and breathe wonderfully through the cloth uppers.  No socks required.  Super comfortable.

I did not know you like shoes that melt. Save yourself the shoes, try lava and volcanoes.

You really need to try Nike Flyknits (4.0 or 3.0), even if just for a while at a store. That's really the closest to "shoeless" I've ever felt.

I've wanted to try the Nike 4.0/3.0 for training/jogging purposes.  I heard they are really light and close to the ground.

I have the Vibram finger shoes too and those are really comfy too.

Those look pretty nice.  I have a pair of Nike free 2.0's and a far thinner pair of New Balance minimus MR00's, which have vibram treads and a much lighter/more comfortable upper than the Frees.  I'll take a look at Flyknits when it is time to replace the MR00's though.  That said, the Tai Chi's had the thinnest sole of the lot.  There is no foam or padding at all.  Just that super thin soft gum sole that you couldn't help but wear through eventually.
