Babylon 5 > Star Trek.

Or at least it's some kind of wierd Lord of the Rings in space with a twist that Gandalf is just as much as a hosebag as Saruman/Sauron.

Please no more Star Trek. No more Spock. Star Wars is OK - it's truthfully cheesy, not pretentious. I'm still pretty sure Vader was still a separate character than Anakin in 1977 - at least based on how Obi-Wan told it to Skywalker and us. Lucas must have changed his mind and rewrote history by 1980. I remember the audience reaction very clearly:

Luke I am your father

Huh? WTF!
I am so fucking glad Fox put Lucas on the sidelines for Empire and got Irvin Kershner to direct. Kershner should have gotten an Oscar for getting Lando and those poor sacks of actors to work so well.

To be honest, I never cared for Star Trek, but I know it has its audience and following. Star Trek seems to me like a mix between Dr. Who and Star Wars, and I really could not stand Dr. Who. If any of you guys did, good for you. Furthermore, I love well done special effects, and the original Star Trek just did not have them.

I'm also definitively a fan of the first Star Wars trilogy. It has a ton of flaws as Lucas kept pulling stuff out of his ass, and apparently still does. I did not like the second trilogy at all. In fact, in my mind the original Trilogy is the start and end of it all.

The Empire Strikes Back is my favorite of the original three mainly because of Lord Vader. In that sequel I was presented with my first realistic villain, instead of an all bad mindless evil being. It almost got ruined with the "Luke I'm your father" crap, but his relentless corporate like absolutism and pragmatism was astonishingly realistic. Yoda was another interesting character. Leia and Solo characters are well developed as well. I also never cared that much for the Death Star, but the Super Star Destroyer was and is ground breaking. An emblem of sheer power.

Things I did not care for in the original trilogy were first and foremost: The Ewoks. NUKE EM! How the hell can a set of primitive cute little cuddly bears armed with stones pose ANY threat to ANY number of fully armed storm troopers. Zero credibility from then on regarding the Empire story development. Who didn't felt like WTF when the emperor started farting lightning of his hands? Right at the end of it all.

Anyway, a master piece even with all of its flaws. Lord of the Rings is even better in terms of development. I read the Silmarillon, and it is still vivid in my mind. Looking forward for The Hobbit.

i never cared for either star trek or star wars really. my friend's are more of star wars fans so i pick on them all the time and tell them everytime we get in a disagreement about something i say ''at least i don't watch soap operas like star wars!'' that's what i see it as lol.

always wanted to drive by a star wars convention and yell ''yay! star trek rules!'' and then they get all pissy and be like ''it's star wars, gosh!'' lol

Star wars is big on me mostly because I was a little kid when the original movies came up. My dad took us to see them and back then going to the movies was a big deal. I love star wars, but I wouldn't dress up like chewbacca... maybe slave leia...

We mexicans hug. Hugs between compadres is fairly common... Unfortunately I don't have a compadre so there goes that. I hug my bro, that counts :) Doesn't always work around here in Sunny Cal. My ex-boss went to a start up, and I tried to give him a hug when he left... Looked at me weird, lowered his head, and just utter the words "Geeezzzz." No hug. Anyway he called me later to come work for him :)

Random thought:
What is more important, to get our point across, or to let others get their point across? I find myself many times trying to get my point across, and fail to recognize that other have more important things to say than me.

it's perfectly cool! i just joke around lot so i never mean what i say all the time. i never grew up with star wars. was video games, computers and music for me so i guess i'm a different kind of nerd/geek. never read comics either. i guess i'm just weird compared to other kids of my time.

it must be because they don't understand me. i try so hard to communicate with them in my town (even my local stores is owned by brazilians and mexicans) but i guess i just can't. i'm a very friendly in person too.

Have you ever read "Splinter of the Mind's Eye"? It was a book commissioned to be the sequel of the original Star Wars. Came out in 1978 and is pretty different from ESB. And I agree, ESB and RotJ are both much better for not having Lucas direct it.

I never got into Star Trek much either -- which always seemed to be just hour-long episodes of dudes doing starship maintenance. The JJ Abrams movie was awesome though  ;D
