IEM upgrade?
« on: July 09, 2015, 07:09:31 AM »

I want a good sounding universal IEM that doesn't make my ears hurt like shit. Using ER-4S. Want something more comfortable and less dark sounding. Good isolation is a plus.

Currently looking at Sony MDR-EX1000.

Any other suggestions?

Campfire Jupiter
Yikes. Should've posted price range.

$500 is my limit for now. Still not sure if I can handle IEMs at all as having things in my ears (earplugs, earbuds, IEMs, anything) always bothered me.

Are the lower end Campfire products good?

I have only tried Sony's Z5 iems but they had quite bad ergonomics imo and my friend could not get them in his ears.
I can't comment on the EX-1000's sound but it looks like it would not be the most comfy either.

If comfort is an issue then I would think a CIEM like UE 4 would be doable in your price range and you wouldn't have to deal with discomfort.

somehow I doubt the sony is an upgrade. why not spend $100 for some custom tips for your ER4? you can work with ACS or other providers for this, I got a number of skeptical non-audiophile friends to try them and everyone is satisfied.
