Can we go back to the er4 being too dark?
I've never heard them, but I've also never heard anyone describe any Ety as nearing anything close to even warm.

I've never heard them, but I've also never heard anyone describe any Ety as nearing anything close to even warm.

There's a hole in the upper ranges (from 3-7ish kHz) that bothers me. It doesn't have enough body. I do hear a couple outlying peaks (8 and 10k)that make it sound "ok" but still too dark. My other gear sounds more "fleshed out" and even in the treble to me.

Honestly, they sound darker the further they're in, but they're unlistenable in noisy environments without the proper seal, which is their primary use.

But also, I'd like to stress, the main issue here is finding something that doesn't literally make my ears bleed. I could live with the etys based on sound alone.

I think you're going to have to go with a full custom or with noise cancellation.
