For Celine Dion,  I higly recommend this:

I couldn't resist. I tried as much as I could...

This is because she speaks Quebecois, not French huh. ;)

I actually like "bright-ish" headphones when listening to female vocals. Don't ask me why... Really liked the Shure SRH940 which can be found relatively cheap used if you'd like to try it as well as the Spider Moonlight cans. HiFiMan HE560 did a very good job handling female vocals and with decent gear driving it (since it seems you have a good budget) they should perform quite well. Also liked the layering and sound of the SRH1840 (which basically reminded me of a Senn HD600 anyway and it seems a few have already mentioned them) but not everyone loves it.

I actually have this exact pairing. It's not bad, but the forwardness is offputting (I believe I have a newer HD600). I have considered switching to an HD650 or adding a "darker" cable to the mix to tame the forwardness. I believe the area around 2K-4K is where I'm having the issues. I want to sweeten the vocals without deadening them. If that all makes sense.

Hd650s with mods will do it for you in this case.

Stax 009. Tastefully restrained upper mids, even and smooth treble, lifelike timbre with female vocals.

What amp do you go with for the 1.3k left in his budget?
