Dip fix for open cans (utterly speculative).
« on: June 04, 2015, 10:49:03 PM »

Assuming a mid tone dip is caused by standing waves between a flat membrane and the side of the scull, it should in theory be possible to compensate for it by an introducing standing waves with the opposite  effect, by help of an additional surface.

If it worked, the result would not only be a flatter FR, but also an improved  transient response and in general a more a-periodic behavior, I think.

I feel that reducing/eliminating 5 would be more effective than trying to introduce 6.

Increasing 5 from the back might be less destructive than reducing 5 from the front. Ofc both at the same time would be the most effective.

Wait a sec guys, do we mean reducing as in reduce the amount of reflection, or decrease the distance?

I meant to reduce the reflections.

Talking about reflections.

So you want to introduce a standing wave that causes a hump at 2kHz?

Won't this deliver the 2khz at a different time than normally, creating a bit of blurriness?

I happen to find a mild depression at 2khz quite nice and realistic sounding.

Is this the production HE1K?  Why did Fang increase the headband to TWICE it's current size yet left the same goddamn ear pads on it?

Would moving the diaphragm distance reduce the standing wave without making the waves arrive out of phase? Assuming the dip is being caused by a standing wave. Does the driver really cover a good area of the skull?
