these headphones have a active power circuit to control the bass, which will be huge "do not buy" point for many folks here and in HF.

Good Lord. What are they thinking?

I wish Sennheiser would make the dynamic equivalent of the Stax 4070 instead of another 'lifestyle' headphone...

Well sure, but if they can sell 100 lifestyle headphones for every Stax equivalent...

TOTL flagship following. Maybe not shown@High End in Munich

I'll be there on Sunday and just ask Axel Grell directly.

But they gotta keep that prestige up somehow.  Like how the 911s and 918s sell all those Cayennes...

I haven't actually either, but it's more the concept I'm talking about, a TOTL closed monitoring headphone.

If the 4070's are anythingn like the Sigma, I proly would not like.

Lot's of "lifestyle" headphones lately. I just went check out the latest Avenger's movie and Burce Banner was listening to some tunes with some silver Beats cans to keep from turning green (http://cdn.stylefrizz.com/img/bruce-banner-hulk-mark-ruffalo-headphones-beats-by-dre.jpg).

Now the questions is, can Senn keep Burce from turning green?

LOL!

I actually find them interesting but yeah, I tend to shy away from things with extra "stuff" in them cups. Also, pricing is way out there for these type of headphone but, hey, it's Senn... I always give them the benefit of the doubt. I listened recently to their Momentum Over-ear version 2, definitely an improvement overall on their previous release from sound to comfort. If I didn't have the MH40s, nor the MDR-1As, I'd probably get the M2s.

While this might be disappointing the Munich High End show is this weekend so maybe we'll get some Senn news (if there is anything to report).

Does prestige actually matter in the headphone world? I think right now the only thing that indicates prestige to the common consumer is price, and that realm is getting gobbled up by all the fashion wannabes. The presitge of the HD800 isn't selling their other headphones.

Cars at least have some concepts that a regular person understands... more power, handling, etc. Even people who aren't into cars can somewhat appreciate a fancy one. But I think audio is too far niche, and headphones even moreso. The climate is changing, but I think it'll be a while yet before prestige makes any real difference.

It's not quite as direct an analogy as with cars but I think that counts for something, "German Engineering" and all that.
