Chang style april fools' day!
Now that this fucker has been warming up on my desk for two weeks, I’m finally able to start talking about it.
About a month ago, I got an email from Jason that he had something he wanted me to hear. My .96 Yggy (p)review garnered a ton of traffic and he said he had a product that I might be interested in. I assumed it was a 1.0 Yggy and jumped at the chance. Imagine my surprise when the box was smaller. Much smaller.
Yes, that’s my dirty Nissan Altima it’s sitting on.
Here I have it fired up on my desk with the Asgard 2. I’ll be putting this fucker through it’s paces but a few observations:
- I’m being told it’s non-military grade, but the two DAC chips are monotonic to 18 bits. True 18 bit resolution.
- Custom ASICs have been made for the DSP to stuff them into the size
- it runs HOT as fuck. Current version is dangerously warm. Could probably cook a baby kitten on this fucker
- first week it sounded harsh as hell
- it’s mellowed down and sounds fucking phenomenal. It’s so close to the fucking Yggy that it’s un-fucking-believable. I peed myself in joy when I sat down this morning and began to listen. It’s that fucking good. I pulled out the Leck and Triad and holy shit, this thing scales. I’ll be bringing my Rag into work tomorrow to try it out.
I’m hearing rumors that a version with USB 3 will be south of $1500. If so, this is the BEST FUCKING DEVICE THIS YEAR.
