Tyll's plots do not portray equal SPL on a horizontal line.

It's a correction that was recommended to him and he would have to redo all his work should he decide to use 'OW' or other compensation methods.
Here:  http://www.innerfidelity.com/content/first-test-estimated-harman-target-response-curve-various-headphones you will find the DT880 plot (and others) measured by Tyll and compensated using OW which is closer to equal SPL.
Compare the results from this page with those of his (outstanding) pdf's to be able to more accurately 'read' Tyll's compensated plots.

Yeah... I always suspected something was off about his measurements at 6-8KHz.

It's nice to see the actual curve. Not sure how I could have missed that article!

That aside, the OW curve is still not realistic IMO. It makes the LCD-2 sound like a bass-light headphone with fairly even and neutral treble. Not sure that's what I hear in reality. But the SR-009 looks just about in line with how I hear it.

I am not particularly fond of the OW curve as well.
AFAIK it is based on how a large amount of listeners 'experience' difference headphones and is sort of averaged.

Interestingly the bass is shown a bit too low for 'audiophile' listeners IMO and more inline with the perception by 'warm sound/basshead lovers's sonic experiences.
Above 1kHz I think OW is 'more accurate' below 1kHz Tyll's plots make more sense to me.

Just my opinion of course.

So you guys that have a lot of experience with the Beyer DT range are pretty confident that the sound I'm experiencing is just par for the course for their stock sound and the issue is my particular hearing sensitivity curve is crashing head on with that?

Just for reference my other cans are AKG 77's & Sennheiser HD25-1 II and neither give me any issues.

I use an EQ... the 880's are super comfy and the soundstage is great.

Yup. heard  T1, DT880, DT770, T90, T70p and I can't bear them. The peaky treble makes my ear bleed. It't the only brand that make me that effect. I even can bear most Ultrasone treble and i've not much trouble with the HD800 treble. I think it's not only a matter of treble quantity . all Beyers present a kind of metallic ( think to the sound when we crumple an aluminium foil) sound I really can't stand.

Sell it and grab a Sennheiser HD558/598 if you can't fund a proper HD600 system.  Fidelio X1 is a very good options for a more fun signature ;)

For measurements, I personaly prefer to see raw measurements. i've my doubt about compensations curves.  My listening impressions differ a bit too often from what I read on graphs.

Sorro, that's a roger as well on the Beyers. I am listening to the T-1 borrowed from a friend and man I am completely underwhelmed by the overall listening experience. I have used it mostly with the Zana Deux and the result has been unsatisfactory. I guess I was looking for a HD 800-like experience ! Have not listened to any other Beyer so its a limited sample.

@Koth : I'm more forgiving than you and other pyrates here. I hate the T1 but I don't think it's a bad headphone. I like its soundstage and its sense of energy and impact : http://www.head-fi.org/products/beyerdynamic-tesla-t1/reviews/11551

Wow, soundstage is OK but I feel differently on both energy and impact. The lack of both compared to the 800 is what prompts me to say its underwhelming.

I spent three month last summer with this T1. A first mnutes I only heard the piercing and boring Beyer Sound. But I've trustable friend who love the T1 so i've persevered. After two or Three weeks  (stockholm syndrom at work maybe  :)p13 ) and more serious listening I begun to understand why some people prefered the T1 over the HD800. and it's specficaly the very specific way the T1 pushes a bit the music towards the listener.  A kind of subtle backward to forward mouvement.  This + the precise and layered soundstage  is what T1 lovers appreciate IMO.

But don't get me wrong. the T1 is very low in my personal ranking and it finished its journey at home boxed a few weeks before I sold it.
