The non-audio all purpose advice thread
« on: February 24, 2015, 06:34:17 PM »

I thought I'd start a thread on generic boring non-audio non-car non-smartphone related questions.

The other day I asked for some opinions on washing machines.

Quote (selected)
ultrabike:
I got a Samsung...

No_One411:
@Armaegis For what it's worth, I've had the same Samsung washer for about 10 years and only had to fix it once last year to replace the a circuit board. Washer was turning on randomly at night and making everyone thing it was haunted.

Bill-p:
LG... Life's Good.

anetode:
Armaegis: current lgs are more reliable, but samsungs perform better. this according to consumer reports (was looking up appliances earlier tonight, oddly enough)

CEE TEE:
Armaegis:  ZD clued me in on LG being on sale at Fry's Electronics a while ago.  I bought one and also found out before I bought it that LG makes the Kenmore Elite ones for hundreds more for Sears.  ;)

other notes to self: LG support in Canada is terrible according to some repair guys and retailers

Service for LG is region specific. I'd check in advance before purchasing from them. If their numbers are low in a particular area, they outsource and the third party gets a fixed amount. They're deincentivized to actually spend resources to fix any warranty issues you have.

This is pretty typical for a lot of OEMs. Support and warranty service are wildly variable depending on the market.

Does this extend to inter-gender relations? I have questions.

Possibly. Except for the "is my partner cheating on me" questions. Those can stay on reddit.

Yeah here in Winnipeg apparently Samsung is the brand to go for in terms of big appliances. I was Sears at talking with a rep and there's a few budget lines (Maytag, Whirlpool, GE, etc) that he said were all fairly comparable, but moving up it was all LG and Samsung for sales but he didn't recommend LG up here as they are outsourced and never have parts etc.

Oh is that what Reddit is good for? Damn I could have really used that a few years ago.

On second thought, maybe not. Nothing good comes from the internet.

Good idea, this thread. I'm going to be buying a house soon and knowing which appliances to choose is a major concern.

Should I date a 24 year old I met on OkCupid? I'm 39.

She came from the internet... so, probably not.
