I know I'm late to this, but when it comes to things like washing machines, what matters is what owners experience, not what CR says or some ratings website. CR ratings are pretty much complete crap on everything. They also are usually so outdated that by the time they rate something as a "best buy" it's already been discontinued.

As has already been noted, LG support on large scale appliances in many regions is simply MIA. Good luck if you need any kind of service. Maytag and most of the other brands are varying levels of shit. Kenmore is VERY hit or miss, depends on the particular model. My money on a washer/dryer would be on Samsung.

LG display is in a different league from the other stuff the company does. They're the only ones that can hack OLED HDTVs, everybody else has already thrown in the towel.

so the fact that the other companies have the sense to abandon an inherently flawed technology means they're not as good as the company that hasn't?

OLEDs have an extremely short lifetime due to being based off of organic substances. this cannot be overcome. would you want to spend $25k on a TV that's gonna be useless in 5 years or so? I wouldn't.

Plus, knowing Samsung, they've probably already started working on QD-LED displays.

Panasonic is still on the OLED wagon too.

Longevity isn't that much of a concern now as it was 2-3 years ago. The problem is cost/profit ratios in the shrinking and increasingly competitive TV segment. Regular LED screens are still much cheaper to make and sell, plus they've improved contrast ratios dramatically to the point the blacks are so good nobody even bothers measuring contrast ratio anymore. The latest flagships I saw at CES were so good with blacks, motion blur, 8K+ resolution and wide natural color gamuts that it's very difficult to justify the expenditure of large resources on an emerging technology still a few years off maturity.

Normally I've found LG and Sony to produce the best flagship screens on demo at CES year after year based purely on PQ and my subjective eye. However, this is the first year Samsung really outdid everyone else. Who knows, I've known Samsung and all the others to pretty much cheat at these kinds of shows. Maybe they were running some sort of super scalers and other processing. I've seen pretty amazing stuff done to 480i/p by experimental Faroudja converters ages ago.

Personally, Sharp's IGZO is what I'm waiting to breakout in the industry.

Where the hell are you getting $25K? The 55" LG OLED is $3500, and they're only on gen 2. In another couple of years, I wouldn't be surprised to see OLED tech at $2500 or below. You can actually pay MORE right now for other 55" sets with shitty edge lit LEDs.

LOL, I missed the period, I meant to type $2.5k (but I guess that's wrong too, though for the opposite reason)

I saw some of the samsung 4k stuff. Look nice but some seem color was bit off but then again a person was probably messing with them. My brother for some reason really wants a 4k monitor but, for me I'll stick to my current sony crt hdtv till I can afford a nice pro plasma monitor/tv. Use to own a sony fw900 24" pro/cad monitor I got for free but, it capped out for some odd reason couple years ago and all local techs refused looking at it no matter what. They all told me the circuitry is too complex and take days to even diagnose it so, eventually gave up on it and put it out for trash. Shame,  cause it offered the most extraordinary picture clarity and color accuracy when fully calibrated. I saw some pro and kuro plasmas come on par to my satisfactory but, were priced extremely high.

Missing periods can be very expensive. Especially if it does turn out to mean pregnancy.

Dimmer switches wear out over time right? My house has a million of them and they all make terrible noises and I think they eat lightbulbs for lunch so I've been meaning to replace them.

I have a bunch of led bulbs, but those require compatible dimmers right? Any recommendations that don't make tons of noise? Brands at my local home depot: Lutron, Leviton, Decora, Cooper.

While we're at it, any recommeendations for bulbs?

Nah, they suck. That's the old stuff man. I don't think the screens I saw will be out till later this year or next year.

Let me tell you right now, anyone looking at 4K should just wait. 8K is a huge difference. That is where you are finally blurring the line between looking at a noticeable screen and a picture or RL. With the right content, it's fabulous. Look out a clear window and that's how close it gets.
