Ya I don't think it's aluminum or real metal...looks like plastic covered with chrome film.  It's probably made as cheap as possible like the rest of the HiFiMan lineup.  Not really a fan of the blinged out easter egg look, but the pads are nice.

Solderdude basically hit the nail on the head, but I could see another issue popping up by using different strength/size/shaped magnets on each side: a "wrinkled" wavefront hitting the ear.  I think the classic symmetrical setup or single ended setup both make more sense than this approach but I'm interested to hear it.

That chromed look and shape makes me think of a Faberge Egg...

Yeah, I thought that was what the slideshow was taking issue with. I thought the graphic was saying we went single sided cuz the two sided array fucks up the wavefront. So much for my Mandarin. Guess that's why Panda Express keeps messing up my Sweet and Sour Pork order.

Haha. I was thinking the design was meant to appeal to wealthy Chinese.

This. The subtlety of the Baofahu.
Is this me or there is a new planar from HiFi Man / Audeze every 2 months ?  p:8
Curious about the sound, anyway.

Both companies realize that they are relatively small companies who are at a very strong position in the headphone industry. To keep up this advantageous position they need very aggressive R&D and product line turnover.

I'm a bit conservative, and tend to trust brands which are not compulsively changing their product line, but you're probably right. Enthusiast's pockets can be very deep, indeed.

They are not bad at all. Audio-GD is 50 times worse.

You're right, Audio-GD is quite impossible to follow  p:0
Most brands stick to this global headphones hype, and we hobbyists are waiting for changes...even from companies which uses to keep a stable line-up. The "past-#10k-S/N-HD800-less-treble-peaky" or the "darker-SR009-V2" come to mind as they look like hobbyist's inventions.
