If we be pirates,
then Changstar be our vessel?

For lack of a better understanding of "Changstar."

I've been thinking of Changstar more as an Imperial Star Destroyer lately.

Is Head-Case worth the rage-imposed barrier to entry? The (very) few threads I've read seem largely to be people ranting about things they don't understand: for example, some moron deciding he's qualified to judge gear entirely from how pretty the PCB schematic is...and then asserting his views in such a way as to make the most pleasantly OT comments on Changstar look positively restrained.

Admittedly, these threads were about NwAvGuy, which might have possibly conceivably affected the tone of the conversation, but the level of rant makes any criticisms about people following him overzealously pale into insignificance...

HC is good if you're a hardcore DIYer, but we have some really good DIYers here too.  I like this place because a lot of the regulars here have really good knowledge of various areas of audio (like ask LFF about mastering someday!), but most people are good about not conflating their ego with their experience levels.

From what I've gathered, HC is a place for the early first and second generation of HFers who grew disillusioned with HF.  CS is largely a newer generation of posters from HF who are generally more mellow in temperament, and I've seen a one or two people make the California association.  There's some cross posting between all three sites, though, so YMMV.

Interesting.  Several people told me that HC came out of disaffected HFers.  Did HC come out of HeadWize, or were somehow related?

Nah, HC was started in 2004 and HF was started in 2001.  HC was started by people who got frustrated by HF.

I was one of the "second generation" of HF'ers, many of the people I originally knew on HF went over to HC never to be seen again.  Not sure why I didn't.  At the time, I just didn't want another forum to suck time away, so I was avoiding it.  Kind of silly in the end considering how things panned out...

The aggressive tone HC has is understandable if you get why they started the site, and realize it's their way making sure it doesn't just turn into another head-fi.

Effin Ringin has measurements, and a team of admins/mods who aren't fanboys, dislike the vast majority of headphones, and there's no profit motive here.  so those things should keep it separate from HF in a more gentle way.
