This is assuming you prefer a somewhat uncolored tube sound. If you want color, syrup, good, thick molasses go for all the cheap Chinese stuff, the Leben, Cary, etc.

I'm pretty sure my Darkvoice falls into that category. What would be an upgrade within that category or are they all just different flavors of sugar? I suppose I could upgrade the parts, but it feels somewhat silly to spend a lot to improve a cheap amp.

The Darkvoice falls somewhere in between. It's actually not bad I mean, I'd take it and make use it if someone gave it to me for free. I find Leben CS300 hugely offensive though. The Leben I would hammer, set on fire, and make a youtube video.

From my experience with Little Dot, I would say the MKIII was in the tubey euphonic lot, while the MKVI was more towards solid state type sound with punchy raw characteristics. I never felt it overwarmed my HD600. Rather, it focused them and gave them balls, especially in the mids and bass. Highs aren't really the strong suit of HD600s. I'd like to hear that amp with HD800s some day, but doubt it will happen.
