Buttery smooth is the first impression I got with the Rag. And that was with the HE-5LE which usually has a some 'zing' in the treble. Not so much here.

It kinda reminded me of the DNA Stratus I heard at the meet. I'm not saying it's the same sound, but that one was buttery smooth, too.

So what do you guys think?  Does this amp deserve the coveted Blue Whale Award?

Definitely don't wanna sound overly skeptical... But I remember a similar 'game changer' hype with Mjolnir... Only to see the majority of people buy it and sell after some time to move on. Similar happened with Lyr 1 as well I think. I am not really convinced that Mjolnir or Lyr 1 changed something in the end...

You should always be skeptical. That is until you can establish trust. After trust is established, you should then verify.

Marv, how is it with the UERMs?

Lemme wire up a balanced cable. I need to do that for a few other headphones. I believe the balanced output has the true cybertronian technology and the SE output is kind of gimped. It kind of sounds that way. I know they sound different.

Yea, noticed that too Marv. The SE output is pretty damn good, but lacks a smidgen of the cyborg magic. I know it's delivering less power.

That seals the deal. Get the Rag now, get the Yggy early next year when I've raised the cash..

You're obligated to wait til Clemmaster post his impressions. He's a fellow HE-6 guru as you know and we have heard each others gear. We would be able to gauge how well the Rag performs with HE-6. Everything Marv has posted makes it seem like an extremely promising amp though.

Yikes, I forgot about Clem....Makes sense.

It'd be interesting to find out whether the HE6 (and any other orthos) sounds better in the lower power Class A or the higher power Class AB mode.

Yep, the single-ended outputs are summed from the circlotron output, so they have lower overall power capability, plus additional components in the signal path...bottom line, we made them as good as we could (because we know they have to be there for convenience,) but balanced, for a circlotron, is the One True Path.

Right now, I'm planning the long term future when I'll have enough space to have a real audio room with speakers and headphone and a confortable chair designed by Eames and  a fireplace for cold winters and a large  window to see the country while I'm listening to music. You see the pic ?

So that why I'm lurking around the Rag & Yggy combo.

Ditto. I'd much rather have just one system, "the" system.

How warm does the amp run? And it's still the same footprint as Mjolnir, just higher, right?
