New Sony Flagship
« on: July 30, 2014, 07:13:16 PM »

Take all of this with a grain of salt. I can not verify yet whether the specs/pricing are rumor or real inside info yet:

3 new products:

1) Headphone, metal enclosure. 70MM or 50MM (depends on who you ask), LCP drivers with special sauce coating. Something about a bass ring, or ring bass output...  MSRP 5399 RMB, which is about 875 USD.

2) Headphone.  40MM LCP drivers. MSRP 3799RMB, so around 616 USD.

3) A new Walkman (Sony A Series). Supports TF card, no touchscreen ( :-00), not android based.

I guess they are cashing in on the R10 legacy? Who knows :)p8

edit: nvm.. apparently its just the same old LCP drivers =/

edit2: small update. Model # for headphones will be Z7 and Z5.  Z7 confirmed 70mm driver, balanced drive (not sure what this means yet). Designed by the same guy who did the Z1000. Might be a new HBA-H(X) model coming out, succeeding the HBA-H3.

Atleast the prices are not that high, pretty interested though as I always liked other Sony products I've had. Never used their headphones for long periods of time though.

Oh yeah been meaning to share this for awhile. For people who think they have heard what an R10 sounds like.  =/

http://www.headphoneclub.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=243202&highlight=r10

Someone (Pu... pur...)  was very sad after reading this  ;). All r10's that have not been fixed are pretty much like this. There is no way to stop the foam from degrading. The drivers also develop mold easily and need cleaning.

I have had 3 R10's fixed/cleaned by this guy (also the original white/yellow foam was a bitch to find) and I can tell you the difference is not subtle. I still have pictures of the drivers (there are 4 versions, I believe mine were #2 and #3) before/ after cleaning that I'll try to find and upload. One even had mold, which is quite nasty. The R10 I recently bought from David (#49... sounds like crap) will be going there soon. It has most of the symptoms listed in the thread.

Mikhail did an overview on the 4 driver numbers years back, but I'm not sure how accurate it was.

Where the heck did you find original foam?  I've only seen it one place before but they wanted way too much money for it.  Did it come with any specs?  I've played with some open and closed cell foam rings and the difference between those two foam rings and no foam is huge.  No foam makes them sound thin and pretty bright, fatiguing to listen to after a while.  The closed cell foam gave the sound more weight but the soundstage and air really suffered...didn't like it.  The open cell foam was the best of both worlds and made them sound really nice again.  R10 tonality was restored along with the nice airy soundstage.

Anyone looking to do this to their R10s be forewarned that you must be extremely careful if you ever need to take the drivers out.  You can easily tear the voice coil leads.

So are there actually bass heavy and bass light R10s or just degrees of degradation?

I'd like to see pics of the mold if you find any.

Dang, I had no idea the R10 was susceptible to that level of degradation. Makes me glad I didn't jump on any so that people who actually know what they're doing can get their hands on them (but also makes me worried about what might ever happen inside my Omega).

Very interested to see what the new Sony flagship is. If it ends up being a limited production I'll probably own one regardless of the price point (for how long is another matter entirely).

That guy said from another guy that it has a ring radiator driver?  Wonder if Sony can achieve HD800 type success with it.

Sony's CD-series were already pretty good. The CD1700 and CD3000 had their fans.

The stock HD800 is impressive. Thing is before the HD800 you had the amazing Pioneer Monitor 10, AKG K1000, the JVC DX-series and other capable headphones. I had the Pioneer and a JVC DX3.

Always been curious about the JVC dx1000. Should I buy it and tell you guys about it? Or does this suck so much that it isn't worth it?
