I agree with the Red Letter Media guys, Lucas was always a hack. The story goes that the Episode IV was essentially a complete mess that was saved in editing. Most of the space battle scenes were also stolen, shot for shot, from WWII movies. The special effects that ILM originally created looked more like bad '50s sci-fi.

Episode V which is considered to be by far the best is the one he had the least involvement with. A lot of VI was just stupid, although the final showdown with the emperor is fairly well done, and about 1000X better than the utterly emotionless lightsaber "fights" from 1, 2, and 3 which look like gymnastics competitions.

I won't even get into the fact that the prequels are one giant continuity error, or Lucas editing and re-editing the original films every time they are re-released. I think somebody should do a version of the prequels that just dubs "NOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooo!!!!!" Over the entire films.

Just watch Cowboy Bebop, Gundam Mobile Suit, Gundam Zeta and a few others.

The fake light saber fights are just stupidly fucked up. Some basic Kendo, Fencing and stick/Bo fighting techniques would have added some great bits of realism and suspense. If the story is basically non existent you can still save a film with good action sequences and good fight scenes.

I look at Star Wars like I look at a Starbucks, nice effects and flavours but there is little worth appreciating. The little good dialogue in Star Wars is like the flat white at Starbucks. I consider the flat white the only acceptable and good coffee they have.

At least Star Wars has the nostalgia factor... (Will Disney fuck up the heritage?)
