There was talk of the dedicated headphone amp, the 2A3mk3, in a BA chassis.

LOL, I should put a guide to current and proposed (vaporware) EC amps together.

Quoted for truth... I'm so confused.  :-S

Haha, yeah I'm not lost, I just don't know where everything Ranka as far as sound quality goes. From reading this thread one would want a 445 production amp. But will the 2A3mk4 with cinemag transformers be as good? Or since I only need it for headphones would the propose "2A3mk3" be better for less monies since I don't need as much power? Who knows lol

Well, the 2A3mk3 doesn't exist. The 4-45 is a secret menu item which doesn't officially exist, although I would definitely inquire about it to see if he's going to make another run.

That leaves the new BA and 2A3mk4. Hard to say which is better for headphones because of so many variables, tubes, etc. I'd say go for the mk4 if you run orthos or speakers. If you like the 300B tube, go for the BA. I suspect the BA would be more a touch more resolving despite the interstage cap because of the Cinemag OPT is really awesome. The mk4 may be cleaner and faster sounding. It's really a sidegrade between those two. Of course if there's ever a Cinemag 2A3 equivalent of the 445 OPT, that could change things.

The 4-45 clearly destroys both. Never heard anything quite like it. (I've only heard it with the AD2000 and modded HD800.) As Anax and Craig both said, it's the only amp so far which has reminded them of the original Levi.

Boo, no mention of the Levi! If Craig makes another 445 run, I'll probably cave.

The Levi cannot ever be made again. The Tango interstages and OPTs are long gone since Tango went out of business.

Word has it the intro run 445 will be $3800, with the production run price -- if it ever goes into production -- $4500.  Seemed very doable until I looked up the price of an EML 45.

Just out of curious, how does this 445DA sound compare to the production one, the production 445 is way better than the 445DA, or they are still in the same league.

This is so unbelievable, BA is already the best I have ever heard, then 445DA is so much better than BA, now 445 production is even better.
