Good stuffs, purrin...your "holy cow" moment with the 445, with which tube was that?  Wonder any more room for improvement with better tubes...

All excited now...

We listened using my quad matched EML Mesh 45s on it. We also tried the Sophia 45s which were not nearly as good. Sort of on the dry brittle side.

The interesting thing is that on the 445DA (development amp), these two tubes, the EML and Sophias, tended to sound more similar (and both quite good). I think either the Lundahl OPTs or the EP interchanges (really the only differences) were responsible for a "tubey" wall-o-sound bloom effect.

Specific to the 445DA: in some ways the Sophia 45s offered more clarity and precision. Anax actually preferred the Sophias on the development amp whereas I preferred the EML Meshes. But even then we both weren't entirely satisfied.

On the 445 production, the EML Mesh 45s were so obviously superior. It was an easy call, even for Anax who places extremely high priorities on the "technicalities" of clarity, microdynamics, microdetail, etc. I see this as a good sign because that tells me the transformers are getting out of the way better.

As I've said. I've never heard anything like this. Most tube amps do intentionally funky stuff to give us that "musical" sound. The Leben is probably an extreme example of this. But even most other good tube amps, it seems to be a balancing act between solid-state strengths and tube strengths.

This amp is special because it does the impossible task of doing both at the same time. There is no balancing. It simply does both. It's tubey, seductive, and a good amount of that inner warmth, yet it's the most fvcking transparent thing I've ever heard. Space was fucking amazing. Black. Pin-point accuracy. Super stable. Laser beams.

The 445DA is the development amp. The God 445 is the 445 production. But I think I know what you mean. I'm confused myself. The 445DA is still good. Better than the BA. The 445 production is on an entirely other level of excellence.

Eddie Current....Eddie Current...

Amazeballs Amp or yes, indeed, The GOD amp.

I must admit, I can't afford but I am super jelly of those who can and will be getting one. This has got to be the best tube amp I have ever heard.

No...this is NOT the typical hyperbole post that proclaims the FOTM the BEST EVAR.....NO...this isn't HF. Nope.  LCD-X God headphone.....puh-lease....

Seriously though...this is THE amp to have.

The three-dimensional soundstage the Eddie Current 445 produces is just uncanny. The speed, the realism, the warm but still neutral sound...just WOW. Craig outdid himself with this baby.

I wish I could afford it and share it with everyone I know who truly appreciates music and good sound. Rarely do amps elevate music to a level where I consider them uber-good. The Cavalli Liquid Glass did that. The BA did that.

However, no amp I have heard before, tube, hybrid, or solid state has been able to move me, and meld so many great qualities together like this one. I didn't say much on Monday. I haven't said much about it until today...but yeah, it's a very special amp and those of you who do get it, will be getting a masterpiece crafted by a true gentlemen and legend of audiophiledom. Craig has made a very special amp. I feel anything I can say about it will fall short. You just have to listen to it to understand how great it really is.

It is the GOD Amp...It's just sooo good....better than pie.

This entire thread reminds me of the AVGN discovering that there is a good Goodzilla game.

It is a good thing I am just a student at the moment.
