How did you find the OBs?

They were remarkably nice. Probably my favorite part of them was instrument separation. Each section in the orchestra had clear definition and the articulation was well-done. Brass was also good--not strident and not smeared. I couldn't really assess depth, and I was standing off to the side so I never really got into the sweet spot of the speakers. On a subpar setup, orchestras can get muddy really quickly, but from what I heard, everything was able to breathe and sounded pretty natural. The midrange was my favorite with the OBs.

Fwiw, I wasn't familiar with the recording so I can't really compare how it'd sound elsewhere.

Supposedly they're even better with different 2A3s in them, but as I heard it, the EC 2A3x4 was pretty darn special.

It was a real treat spending some time with LFF's top secret project (and hearing him share a few of his remasters!) and hearing purrin's open baffle speakers.

Thanks for lending your AVVTs, Tari. Hearing them in the BA was one of my favorite experiences at the meet.

Cool, did Craig have a 2A3 BA there?  He usually advises against ordering it so I find that interesting...

I was confused, too. It was apparently a 2A3 MK2 in a BA chassis. Mike corrected me when I was confused.

Btw, the OBs were running off my 2A3 MKIV with the EML Solid Plates most of the time. I had a chance to hear the AVVTs in the amp at the end and it was pretty amazing, super accurate and resolving. I ultimately ended up with the EMLs over the Psvanes, though as I felt the amp was edging too far into the perfectly solid state sound arena. I really liked the EMLs and will probably be using the amp for speakers in the long run.

I might see if it's ever possible to track down the AVVTs and some NOS RCA black plates as well.

Craig's pronunciation of Psvane is correct btw (pavane).

That is really cool.  BA still has best looks in my book of any of his current/future line, so if he can do one in a BA chassis, why not?  (I'm surprised everything fits in there to be honest.)  A double wide BA style chassis for a 2A3 MKIV or 445 would be tops for me aesthetically if he's not willing to go full Moth.

Was the 445 there too?  (If so, any comparisons?)

No 445 present.

I don't know if Marv was trying to make me feel better, but he mentioned that the 2A3 MKIV turned out way better than he expected and Mike mentioned that the EMLs sounded a lot better than the last time he heard them.

Do you know if this was a one-off or does he actually intend to put it into production?  Even though I just received a Stratus last week, I would buy a MK2 in a heartbeat, if that were the case.  Or as Tari mentioned, a MK4, if it were put into a double-wide BA chassis.

Looks like it was a fun one.  CEETEE you're amassing quite the collection :)  Any impressions on LCD-X/XC or any other new stuff?

Beat me to it, but I am dead tired. Just got back safely.

Thanks Christian (CEETEE), Marvin (Questhate), Ravi (zerodeefex) for doing the heavy lifting. This meet was absolutely absolutely wonderful. Really great crowd up in the Bay Area. Lots of smart folks, discerning folks, and with good ears. Since I've already heard so much, I tend to get quickly bored at meets, but not this one. It seemed to go by too quickly and I was disappointed that I did not get a chance to speak to more people for longer periods of time. At the end, I left wanted more, and that is a good thing because I haven't felt that way about meets for a while.

Will get some sleep and be back later.

Seriously, that Enigma was the highlight of my meet. It sounded so open, in that the mids were spot-on. It avoids that "cupped hands" sound in the mids that plagues other closed headphones like the Alpha Dogs and the LCD-XC. It's tuned a bit more musical than the Paradox, but still within the range of neutral. Probably the best closed headphones I've heard along with the Paradoxes. I've somehow avoided hitting up LFF for a pair of headphones thus far, but I know I'm going to have to order a pair.

LL3 --> Blackbeards (Don-modded Kingsounds) were another favorite. Spot-on tonally, for my preferences. May not have been as fast as the 009 sitting next to it, or reached as low, but much more tonally pleasing. After switching to the 009, the treble was grating my ears. I don't know how the stock Kingsounds sound, but these were impressive. Anothr head-fier next to me seemed equally impressed.

Only other rig I listened to extensively was the Burson Soloist --> Alpha Dogs. Not impressed at all. Wonky sounding mids, peak in the mid-treble-ish region. I think the last Mad Dogs I heard were better, to be honest.

Finally heard the XC briefly. I quite liked them actually for a closed headphone. If they were cheaper, I'd prob get one. But hearing the Enigmas pretty much took them off the table.

Favorite part of the meet were getting to hear Marv's speakers. I went into that room three separate times and got sucked in for at least 20 minutes each time. Nothing beats eating Mexican food while rocking out to a Steve Albini mix of In Utero. They don't reach the lowest of lows, and they don't throw as big a stage as my Maggies (although the imaging is more precise), but they sound so natural overall. Mids were great, and strings and brass walked that fine line between having good attack but without ever getting harsh. Seriously cannot believe that these cost less than many of the headphones at the meet. Then again, I only heard them out of the EC 2A3x4, so not sure how they'd sound out of a lesser amp.
