RUSH - ABC 1974 - Record Day Store Colored Vinyl
Wow! I just had chills run through me. Rough and raw. A hungry RUSH plays for the first time in final form, Neil Peart had joined the band! You can hear the youth in Geddy Lee's voice as he belts out some of their early stuff, including some rare tracks only available on this album. There is feedback from amps, more distortion from the guitars than you can shake a stick at, and you can hear the guys on the board scrambling to keep up with the boys on stage and equipment that's obviously pushed beyond it's limit. Neil's playing on a pretty bog standard kit, which is refreshing to hear vs. his later day goliaths. Geddy's finger work on the bass almost overshadows Alex Lifeson's guitar, right up until he lets out a mind blowing, melt your face off riff or makes his gibson sing.
This one transports you to another place. It's hard to believe that it was almost 40 years ago! It's not their tightest, cleanest release. That's not what this one is about. This is about getting a glimpse of the chemistry of a rock band about to become arguably one of the greatest ever.
