I think windows are fine, provided they are done nicely, like on many of Zenith's designs. Some of the cheaper watches have cheesy looking windows. I'm not really a fan of the two tone look. I don't really like metal bands in general, but if you're going that way, I think it's best to stay with one color. I definitely prefer black leather to any metal though.

Welp, I did a foolish thing and started learning more about watches. The Raymond Weil watch I bought is like a gateway drug...

So, when quartz watches came out for cheap, the Swiss watch industry crashed. The Japanese were like, "sell us your watch companies for pocketchange!" and a Swiss guy decided to save the industry by buying them himself and selling cheap fashion watches. The Swatch group he built became huge and a bit of a vertical monopoly. The company that makes the internal movements for watches, ETA, is actually the source for many, many watches, even from companies not part of the Swatch group. Raymond Weil, for example, while independent, is spared the high cost of developing its own movements by buying from ETA. That will change after 5 years when ETA stops selling to outside companies and companies now often do a bit of in-house finishing on ETA movements (which are well-made), but it's interesting. Rolex and a few others make their own movements. Companies in-group often have some special in-house designs adding things to higher end ETA movements like Omega's 8500 caliber.

Anyway, I thought I'd cap my little collection with a step-up and get an omega, since rolex are not what I'm looking for:

But then, I met someone who works for a big Swiss watch company who said, "Your style is more Vacheron Constatin's quai de l'ile, or an A. Lange Sohne or an Jaeger LeCoultre"... I, uh, had to look those up (still learning). The quai de l'ile is a $40,000 watch, it turns out!


Hmm, I can't afford my style (and I'm not entirely sold on it), well a complement is a complement, right? I'll take what I can get at this point in my life. 

But, Jaeger LeCoultre makes a wide range of watches, from something I can afford all the way up to whatever you paid for your house. And it makes its own movements and does an exhaustive test on watches before they're sold, which is cool. In their history, they've even supplied movements to Patek Phillipe. So, I thought I'd look at their watches.

An alligator strap is nice, but I'd like something sturdier and not likely to clash with shoes, etc. Or smell over time... Hmm, I'll find a way to get a nice bracelet on one of these.
