Ooh... automatics have always facinated me. I'm still in my rut though. I buy my watches like I buy audio gear: new, inexpensive, and worth every penny.

Rockin' a Timex Expedition. It punches above its weight only needing a time tweak twice a year. It's always within 30 seconds of coordinated time so I just tweak it when DST rears its ugly head.

  I have a glitch for a COSC certified mechanical chronograph timepieces. Have a few of those but there is a problem, can't wear them much. They all get scratched easily and while being limited editions it would just be a shame to have them all scratched up.
   This situation actually reminds me of a major problem with dedicated audio systems at home as I also have a pretty good sounding and fairly expensive dedicated stereo set-up that has not been touched even once in the last 5 years, at least! Before then it was moved around the house a couple of times but now I just get dizzy from even thinking about moving it again (was stupid enough to bring these monsters to the second floor 6 years ago :-).   
   On the other hand my wife wears RADO and that freaking thing is just indestructible, after so many years of constant wear this ceramic marvel looks ABSOLUTELY brand new. That watch looks so strikingly elegant with both casual and chic outfits I honestly think whoever made that design was a pure genius.
   So at some point the itch took me again and I was looking for a new watch but this time all of the above thoughts were already deep in my mind. I started looking for a COSC certified ceramic masterpieces and finally was fortunate enough to find one. Limited edition of only 300 timepieces became available and I jumped on it immediately (this was quite a few years back but up until now I have not heard of any other certified chronograph to posses a ceramic casing and feel it was a pure luck for me being able to get one). I had to go through THREE pieces of this limited edition run all custom ordered from Switzerland to finally end up with one meeting my criteria of precision timekeeping (It stays within 1-2 seconds in a week when winded properly, which by the way is absolutely incredible for a mechanical self winding chronograph)!
   This is a Salvatore Ferragamo F-80 limited edition mechanical COSC certified chronograph masterpiece with full titanium/ceramic casing and bracelet. They still produce similar looking watches but mechanism is now a quartz movement and it is being sold for waaay cheaper. I figured that first run was just to establish the name. Needless to say I absolutely adore this watch and wear it all the time, the titanium now shows some signs of wear but all the rest is absolutely perfect and mechanism is just as precise now as when I first tested it. All the other, truly unique and gorgeous looking ones are just collecting dust, probably waiting to be stolen ha ha     
   The point is this, it doesn't matter how unique and beautiful your watch is if you can't wear it freely, whenever and however you want and it doesn't matter how incredible your stereo system could sound if you are not able to listen to it freely at your preferred listening levels without constantly thinking about disturbing the others.

Simple Tank-style watches (Cartier, Hamilton, Baume and Mercier) are also elegantt but less masculine. So I tend to think they work better for people in more laid back professions such as print journalism, the arts, and liberal arts professors.

Most of the them owned Vulcains at some point. My Timex is basically the same as George W. Bush's.
