I can indeed confirm the Hilo works great as a digital to digital converter.  I hooked up USB input and AES output and it did some really nice things for some older DACs I had laying around, very noticeable improvement.  I can't speak to its performance compared to other DDC or USB to SPDIF converters as I have none on hand, but it is yet another a really useful non-advertised feature nonetheless.

Been busy with work, but figured a bunch of things out over the past month. I bought new monoprice XLR to RCA cables(should have just stayed with monoprice in the first place), so Hilo to S7 works perfectly now.  Previous XLR to RCA cables(AMB?) were faulty.  Also, the clicking on the S7 is only with the 1/4" TRS plugs. Both Stock Sennheiser and Neutrick plugs both did this, so it's just an inherent problem with 1/4" plugs not the S7 itself.  Also, I tried out some new tubes with the S7.

Was running 4xRCA 6SN7 GTs, 2 Raytheon Yellow letter 6SN7 GTAs, 1 Sylvania Chrome Dome as the driver.

Now running 4xRCA 6SN7 GTs, 2 Electro harmonix 6SN7s, and 1 CBS/Hytron 6SN7 as the driver

Addition of the EHs added warmth, which was a little suffocating at first.  I don't think I'd be able to stand 2 pairs.
It also added more vocal clarity compared to the Raytheons, weird.

Addition of the CBS/Hytron pushed vocals forward a bit, which I like.  I never did like distant vocals.  It just sounds awful when the instruments overwhelm the vocals and it feels like its getting squashed.  Everything also sounded airier, which I liked.
