Yeah, he says there will likely be future production runs. No indication if those runs will be any larger or not however. 30 units is actually the standard number of units for each of Alex's runs (in the case of the LG, 15 were made in silver and 15 in black). I have a feeling going forward there will be fewer available units to be sold direct, as Alex is using global retailers now.

A big thanks to Tari for tolerating my company so graciously despite him being significantly sleep deprived.

I shouldn't get enthralled by Alex's products anymore but I really was impressed with how compact and well engineered this amp is. I had a little quiet "moment" with it when Tari was looking for another power cord for the dac and fired it up. The start up "symphony" is just too cool , partly because I know what is happening behind the scenes as the little relays become activated to allow the amp to come up smoothly at each step. Just one of this little geeky engineering things that will go unnoticed by most.

The sound was as great as anticipated and the HD800 sounded just phenomenal. Tari tried out the P1000 ( grado ) and there was no background hiss with high gain and full volume. he near ruptured his ear drums when the music started playing on high gain setting and we quickly dropped the gain to accommodate reasonable range of the pot. We were on budgeted time and thus didn't do any comparative listening to any other amps. The LL - SR009 / SR007 which was a treat to hear again.

Wehn you tried the PS1000 with high gain was that in SE mode? If so that's a little perplexing to me. In general it seems I hear more hiss than others, like folks who say the LG + TH900 is dead quiet. I'm wondering if maybe it *is* something having to do with my environment affecting the amps.

Maybe the gain on your source is lower so you use more pot?  Hehe... :D

It was the HP1000.  It was connected to to the SE out but was balanced in.  I tried it two ways - one with no music playing cranking the volume, the other with tracks that should be hissliss at various volumes.  That was a pleasant surprise based on what I had heard about it going in.

This was with the Invicta set to -10.5 and balanced out, which should give a little less than 1.5V, so less than a lot of sources put out.  I can try it with sensitive headphones at 0 which would be 4.6V, or at the least -7 which at 2V is about average.

Another interesting thing was hearing two different modded T50RP's that had wildly varying sensitivities, never realized just how much modding can affect that.

GS-X V2 just came in today so I'm holding off until I get to compare the two (or three including the DSHA.)

Thing is, I hear the hiss even when the amp isn't plugged into a source. I'm seriously wondering if it's picking up some atmospheric noise or something. Because when I plugged Grados into the SE output the hiss was LOUD.

Oh, it's possible that your cables or even the transformers are picking up some noise in your environment.  Definitely.  That's happened to me before which is why I did that failed hospital grade iso-transformer experiment.  Try listening in another room or location to make sure?  Move your components apart from each other as far as possible too.

Actually many sub-par SMPS units pump a ton of crud back into the line. That is why I try to swap all of my audio PSU's to linear regulated ones. An iso-tranny might be worth investigating.
