The  stereotypical solid state sound is due to broken  implementation ringing for a short time. This gives a sharpened feel to the sound. It is not possible to make a stable tube amplifier with this property without lots of distortion, which would mask the ringing.

Good solid state amps don't have this feature and neither are overcompensated to sound slightly slow. It's  rare though, even nvavdouche made such a mistake.

Excellent impressions, pity I'll never be able to have a listen. Or at least not in the foreseeable future.

Nice impressions MF. Looking forward to hearing it went it hits my local dealer. Sadly on the meet just last Sunday, the Liquid Fire that the distributor brought was broken, really looking out for more of Cavalli's stuff next time.

@Astral: Though I'm still a little biased towards SS(we have little good tube amps around these parts for headphones), even some of the best solid state amps still retain that 'solid state' sound. Point is, its not rare and we have yet to understand why this is so.

@MF:

Just curious, does sound of the amp remind you of the LL2's sound?

Yeah. Very musical, punchy, lots of layers of details coming your way, but overall very effortless sounding. For some reason the LL2 seemed to change a little bit more after leaving it on for a few hours versus the LAu: it got just a little bit more refined sounding and smoother, but that could just be something having to do with the nature of electrostats versus orthos which are a bit rougher in the treble?

I mostly talk about music there. Weird.

must be just this one run..but also could be that he is limiting it to 30 since it is a fairly niche product.

AFAIK this is the first amp to be released under Cavalli's new distribution plan, and half of those 30 are already allocated for retailers.

Alex clarified on the HF thread that that was just for the first run.
